|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am an avid reader, and visit the site frequently. I tend to look for grammar, editing, and spelling errors, and am willing to give advice on things I think can be improved or need to be explained more, etc. I expect very little other than patience, as I do have other things to do beyond just beta reading, as I am myself a fanfic writer, and a published author working on new books.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a few strengths which I believe can help others. I have a critical eye for spelling errors, though I admit I probably won't catch everything. The same goes for Grammar and general editing. I love to read and this means I can come up with questions about plot details I can pass along to help others become stronger writers. I am also willing to give personal advice and views on the fics to those who want me to, as I always enjoy helping other writers as best I can. I personally am a decent writer of fiction along the lines of the more serious lines, but I enjoy a good piece of humor too, and that can help in reading other fics.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sadly, my biggest weakness, at least in my opinion is actually knowing HOW to tell a joke or be funny deliberately. I often come up with funny stuff without intending to, and I'll laugh at whatever I find funny, but I personally have no idea how to purposely write a decent joke to save my life. I can sometimes get really deep into my criticism of something if I feel it deserves it, although I never go out of my way to offend. Though this sometimes can happen. I don't like to think of myself as an elitist, but sometimes I get very nitpicky and I hope people can put up with that as it tends to be something that happens semi-regularly. I'm also worthless for anything related to poetry, so if you're looking for Poetry beta readers, you may be better off looking elsewhere.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Honestly, I tend to like most types of fanfics and will read just about anything, so long as the spelling and grammar and the like isn't so bad that I'm practically having to re-write the fic to make it comprehensible. I do have a few fics I dislike reading, but that's largely due to certain character pairings. Other than that, I'm generally open to anything except poetry since I don't really 'get' it. As long as a fic is well written, I'll generally read it. Some of my favorite pairings are Naruto/Temari, Inuyasha/Sango, Lelouch/C.C, Lelouch/Kallen, Takato/Ruki, Takato/Renamon, and Ranma/Kasumi. I also greatly enjoy crossover fics.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
When it comes to fanfics I prefer not to read, the list is usually topped by Yaoi/male-male romance. Not because I have anything against those who enjoy stories involving male homosexuality or even are male homosexuals themselves, but simply because the stories do nothing for me whatsoever. Other fics I dislike are fanfics based on particular pairings, with the top of the list being Ranma/Akane pairings, as I hate Akane with a passion and do not like reading anything Akane-Centric, as I can't get into the idea why people think she's such a great character. I also dislike stories that paint Genma Saotome as nothing but evil/greedy/etc. and Nodoka Saotome (Ranma's mother) as a saint. She agreed to the seppuku contract. That makes her WORSE than Genma in my eyes. I'm a little bored of Inuyasha/Kagome pairings (Frankly I can't stand how she treats him with those beads). As for anything else, it's honestly case by case, and I reserve the right to deny further beta reader services if I feel a fanfic is going downhill or if I feel that after the first chapter, I can't in good conscience continue working on it.
