|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader, I am open to Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sons of Liberty, The Patriot, Harry Potter, Merlin, Van Helsing, Bleach, Phantom of the Opera, Thor, Captain America, Avengers, or any of the other categories I have listed below. I will do Twilight if I must, but I would rather not. However, that is not to say I am only limited to these things. If you have a story you want betaed for something other than the listed areas, feel free to send me a PM and ask me if I would be willing. Most likely, I will say yes. My style is based on using description, natural-flowing dialogue between the characters, and a heavy emphasis on spelling, grammar, and composition, as well as mostly sticking to canon, but I'll definitely branch out there. WARNING - I am incredibly direct and oftentimes rather blunt in my constructive criticism and betaing. Please do not take offense to it - I do not flame or needlessly criticize. I simply do not sugar-coat things. I will tell you precisely what is wrong with the area in question, but I will also give you the tools to fix it and make it ten times better. All this aside, I am also very encouraging and will be your cheerleader and your biggest fan while betaing your story. I know firsthand how hard it is to write something good right off the bat, and it was very difficult learning how to write well before it all finally clicked. I will guide you where I was not guided, this way your own journey to being an excellent writer will not be as hard as it was for me. :)
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I fix grammatical errors and mispellings in sentences, and also provide more detail, while not taking away that part of the job from the author of the story. Also, I give advice on what to do to better the story itself. I will help you make your story believable. I am also a History major and Medieval and Byzantine Studies minor in college concentrating on Colonial America and Medieval Europe, with a completed thesis about the historical Macbeth totaling 39 pages. I am also published in an article I helped do the final research and editing on alongside my professor, an Andrew W. Mellon scholar, in a journal for Early Christian Studies, about the two early Church Fathers Cassian and Jerome. Because of this, not only is my knowledge off the top of my head incredibly accurate, but I also have academic sources readily available at my fingertips. If needed, I will even check out a library book or print a peer-reviewed journal to read so I can make sure everything is as historically and canonically accurate as possible. Trust me - this is a very good thing!
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Unfortunately, school does get in the way a lot, so I might not be able to get to the chapters as quickly as I would like. Please bear with me! I'm trying to juggle a bunch of things at once. This also applies to summer, when I am working. I work in an office, so I have set hours that take up most of my week. It's hard to predict when I will have free time, but I try to get to betaing chapters when I can. I am graduating this May with my Bachelor's, so this means real life and a full time job (and possibly grad school next fall), so we'll see how my schedule improves. As of right now though, everything is pretty normal.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I will beta just about anything, from romance to general to family to hurt/comfort. Don't be shy!
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
NO SLASH! I do not like slash one bit, and will not beta for it. At all. Enough said. Also, no mpreg, femmeslash, yaoi, whatever. Not my cup of tea. Please do not ask me to beta for these things, otherwise I will refuse you. Also - I will not rewrite your story for you. Please do not ask me to do so, as it is not fair to you as a growing author, and it is not fair to me, as an author who is essentially a ghost writer when this happens. It takes away from my credit as well. I take myself seriously as an author, and am aiming to be published. Therefore, I will also not accept requests for stories such as this. One last thing: I cannot stand whiners. I have already warned you that my style of editing is very direct and very blunt. Please do not rant to me stating that I was harsh, mean, cruel, etc. I take myself seriously, and I take you seriously. In return, I expect you to take your work seriously, and myself as someone who is taking time out of my schedule to edit your work pro bono seriously.
