|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a bit daunted by the ridiculous number of characters I'm allowed, but that's okay. I'll keep this short, though probably not terribly sweet.
First and foremost, I am a writer. That being said, I love reading other people's work and helping them become better writers. I am willing to read anything, and by that I mean anything (with certain exceptions, see "Not My Cup of Tea" below), assuming the writer is willing to listen to what I have to say and respect my opinion. (At this point, I'm going to stop avoid second person, because it's getting frustrating.)
If all you want is someone telling you that you're the greatest writer who ever lived, don't come to me, ask your mother. If you were that fabulous, you'd have a paid editor and a signed deal with a major publishing company. You're writing fanfiction, not Faulkner. But if you want help, editing, suggestions, or some moral support, that's what I'm for.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Gramatically, I can pretty much guarantee 99.9% accuracy, thanks to my mother the English teacher. I'm also pretty decent at helping with language fluency, cluttered/underdeveloped dialogue, plot, etc. I recognize good writing when I read it. And I absolutely love reading stuff, amazing or otherwise, so you can count on at least some lavish praise, if for nothing other than giving me something to peruse. And I'm not going to cut you down, because it's called CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I might not get around to stuff for a while, but I haven't forgotten it. I just have four siblings and a heavy courseload.
But if we're looking for serious faults, I'm too often lavish and flowery, and I love long sentences. And I use big words just for kicks. But that being said, I'm here to improve myself and help others in the same pursuit. For me, that pursuit also involves a decrease in the occurance of the phrase "that being said" in my writing. I'm working on it.
I should also issue a warning: I get attached to things and stories, and I occasionally try to take over. If I do, I'm sorry. It's my fault, and if you let me know, I'll totally back off.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'll read just about anything, any fandom, any plot, pairing, AU, slash, etc. There are, however, a few exceptions, as seen below. Erm....I'v no clue as to what to do with the other 4783 characters I'm allowed here...
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
1. I am morally opposed to the following in reality, and while I accept that sometimes a good writer can use them well to his/her advantage, I further find that they rarely work in writing:
Nevertheless, if you are absolutely convinced that I will not hate your piece even though it happens to contain any combination of the aforementioned offending elements, feel free to have me beta.
2. If you want useful criticism involving character development and whatnot, I'm not of much use if I'm not familiar with the fandom. I've read/seen quite a lot, but if I haven't seen what you're writing on, I'm pretty much useless. But if all you're looking for is grammatical/fluency help, I'm glad to help. Really.
