|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I look for detail and coherence in a written work. You cannot be sloppy in your writing. If I know a subject very well there will be honest, critical opinions given. I also do NOT mince my words to spare feelings. I can say that, if your work is good, I will most certainly say so. If it honestly needs work, I will definitely let you know. Your work should be good enough so that I can envision the world you are writing about.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am a stickler for correct spelling. I am also given to detail and do NOT like skeleton stories that constantly require one to 'use their imagination'. Its YOUR world! Describe it, because [in terms of the story] YOU OWN IT! I also look for proper flow of a story and grasp of material by an author. If you don't have it, you NEED to get it!
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
You might have an angle I would have never thought of. That I can certainly accept if it makes sense. Sometimes I am quick to judge before I have been fully informed. If I do this, tell me.
The only other set-back I might have would be in being overly-critical. If you get your feelings hurt easily, don't employ me.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I do get into certain subjects, such as: Space travel and exploration, Civil war history, Japanese history, cooking, desert areas and nomadic tribes and culture, and into a rare few TV shows- Odyssey 5, Rat Patrol, Otherworld, Jericho, Space: Above & Beyond, and BSG [the new series]. I am into books by Anne McCaffrey [PERN series] and, surprising to me, Frank Herbert's 'Dune' series and the follow-ups by his son, Alice Borchardt, Whitley Strieber, Cormac McCarty, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Judith Tarr.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Overly romantic, sex-filled, bodice-rippers turn me off. I'm more logical than emotional in what I like. I also am not into truly hard-core sci-fi and fantasy realms [outside of likes indicated previously]. Any works full of techno-jargon will turn me off unless you can get me engaged into it.
