|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I believe very firmly in being a sounding board for ideas, offering critique when it is needed, pointing out mistakes whether grammatical or contextual, and in generally having a good time with the story. My style has always been more detail oriented than not, although I've learned through painful experience that there most definitely is such a thing as too much detail. I believe very firmly in making one's characters as human and realistic as possible, and I may try to convert you to my way of thinking. Be warned!
Other than that, I'm something of an old hand at this, and I've seen a thing or two. I'm quite familiar with many different writing styles, and I should be able to handle just about anything you can throw at me.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I've always been excellent at description and dialogue, and ever you need a plot bunny or random happenstance to liven up your story, I'm always game for that. I always try to maintain story quality by correcting any and all grammatical mistakes that may catch my eye, and punctuation is a must with me. If you're looking for the traditional Beta-reader, where one merely peruses your work and corrects errors, I can do that well, but I also like to make suggestions concerning plot and character development. I ask a lot of question, and I'll try to make you defend your ideas.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can be more than a little verbose, as my stories will testify, and my comments may sometimes reiterate the same point more than once. I sometimes get stuck on the gritty details and fail to take into account the larger picture. If that happens, though, normally my brain eventually catches up and smacks me backside the head. There will be times when I am either busy with my affairs in RL or caught in the clutches of my muse. If either of these occur, it may take some time before I can tend to my duties as a Beta. I'm sorry, but life is a cruel mistress from time to time.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Obviously, I prefer to beta-read stories that are based in fandoms that I am familiar with. For example, as you can see by my list of Naruto fanfics, it's a safe bet that I know the Naruto world rather well, so I probably wouldn't mind beta-reading a Naruto story. Other than that, while I do have my preferred pairings and favorite characters just like anyone else, I'm up for nearly everything you can throw at me.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Well, it's been a principle with me to not write yuri or yaoi unless it is directly implied in the canon, so for the sake of not being hypocritical, I also do not beta stories which are strictly yaoi or yuri. If it is implied or done in a sensitive way, perfectly fine, but I don't do porn, whether straight or no. There are certain pairings in certain fandoms that make me groan, but I'll normally be able to work around them. If you're in any way curious as to what grinds my gears, just ask. Other than that, once again, I can take most anything.
