|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well, to be honest I'm not entirely sure what to write here as I'm new at this. I keep an eye out for spelling and grammar, which I feel is very important in all stories. So hopefully I can help with that at least! I also notice things like so-called 'Mary Sues' and their male equivalents - and also what makes a character likeable. When checking my own stories, I read over it twice, correcting any obvious spelling or grammar mistakes, then leave it for a day or so. I'll then have another read and change anything I missed the first couple of times - and so on, until I'm happy. I can guarantee I'll give the same attention to any stories I'm asked to look at. I also try to give balanced constructive criticism. I'm really not sure what else to write, so hopefully that will give people an idea of what I would be like as a beta-reader!
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling. I proudly say I excel at spelling. I use the British spellings myself, but can adapt to American spellings if there's any call for it. I like to think I am good at picking up on grammar mistakes too. I also pick up on plot errors - I'm always reading back over my own work and picking the plot to pieces!
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I sometimes read too quickly. I'm trying to fix that flaw - it means I sometimes miss things. I also admit I enjoy sensationalised plots, which may or may not be completely unrealistic. I get caught up in some plots, I admit that.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
To be honest, at the moment my only real preference is Titanic stories. As long as it is Titanic-related with an interesting plot (even if it's just a plot idea!) I am interested.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Slash, anything with graphic sexual content, crossovers or time-travel stories. I really am not interested in them at all. I also must stress that I like a story to have an actual plot - I don't want to start reading stories when the author has no idea what to do next because they haven't thought of a plot yet!
