|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a Beta, I am more involved in the story flow, and the characterization than most. I have a tendency to point out the times where things aren't continuous in the story, and such. I communicate frequently with the author, and would expect them to do the same. Update times don't bother me, but I would like a 36 hour grace period before the author bugs me for it back. I tend to return chapters faster than that, that time span is simply my safety net. Stories should be relatively well written, or at least have an idea with relative promise. Unless you want my help to get your writing to a higher level, in which case, the author should state that in first contact.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My best skills are in continuity, of both the story and the characters. -YOUR story, YOUR characters. If it is out of canon, the continuity becomes that of which your story lends your characters. Grammar, punctuation and spelling are other key points- I can easily spot the errors, and make the simple corrections. These skills are not quite as strong as the continuity, although they are of good quality. As a copy editor for a newspaper, I'd like to think that I don't miss much.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have a tendency to read into things, to question where an action, piece of dialogue or event will lead the story. Sometimes this is good, Sometimes this is bad. You choose.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Out of Canon, but not way out there. Canon is fine, but creativity is better. Future/Past stories, or AU are greatly loved as well.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Severely Out Of Character. For example, Ginny/Dumbledore, or a friend with someone's parent. Most anything else I will beta, but it does go mainly by a case by case basis. If something is extremely well written, or understandable, then OOC is okay.
