|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello, my pseudonym is Ariaeris, and I am a teenaged, open-minded writer ready to offer my services as a beta-reader to anyone who may wish for my assistance.
I am a very dedicated reader and writer and that dedication transfers over to my beta-reading; I take my job as a beta-reader very seriously. I will make sure that I only take stories if I am fully able to commit myself to them and all the responsibilities that come with betareading a story. If I am not able to fully commit myself to a story, then I will be sure to notify you as soon as humanly possible.
My beta-reading style follows a simple three step process:
First, I perform a quick, computerized spell check of the document I am in charge of. I make sure, at this step, to make no corrections once so ever; I merely record the errors found on a separate document.
Secondly, I read through a hard copy of the document in detail, circling errors and writing corrections in the margin without referencing the spell checked version of the document.
Lastly, I compile the spell-checked document and my own hand written improvements and I type out a revised version of the document. This revised document, the original version, and the errors the spell check has found are then all sent to the original author along with any personal comments I may choose to add; from there, it will be up to the original author's digression over what should be done next.
Although I can be a bit of a procrastinator at times, I am very serious about betareading as I said before; right behind personal requirements, beta-reading will be my highest priority.
I you choose to ask or my services as a beta-reader, and what you need beta-read fits my strengths as a writer and I know the subject material in detail then there is a good chance that I will beta-read for you. Unless I am most definitely unable to devote myself completely to your document that needs to be beta-read, or something of extreme personal importance is going on, I will give you my most dedicated work at the fastest speed possible.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Thank you for continuing to read my beta-reader profile; it means a lot to me that you consider me a competent enough reader and writer to possibly want to request my skills.
I have many skills when it comes to writing, reading, and betareading. I am methodical with my betareading, constantly searching for spelling or grammatical errors so that the best possible document can be written. I am also a dedicated worker and, if I am working for you as a beta-reader, then you will never receive anything less then my best work; I refuse to let you down as my employer by giving you something less then my best effort.
Also, I can follow a logical story line and its progression easily and, with a few notes about future events in your story, I can accurately pinpoint any places where plot holes might form so that you can eliminate that possibility. I can also make suggestions for story lines if you ever fall under the terrible curse of writer's block if you wish for my assistance.
Finally, I have a good grasp on the English language, so I should be able to spot any errors that may have slipped through the cracks during writing and I will work with you constantly to make sure that your story always meets your personal standards.
As a final thought before I close, I would like to say that while I may consider myself a proficient writer, I am only human and I will occasionally make mistakes. I will be constantly truthful with you though and I hope that, between you and I, between writer and fellow writer, we can create something wonderful together.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
The antonym of strength; weakness. A vital point to any well rounded profile and one that can, possibly, make or break a deal between you and I. I ask you thought that, while you read, please remember that we are all only human. So, please keep an open mind, and maybe we will have a contract struck between the two of us soon.
As I said before, I can be a bit of a procrastinator, but normally this will not affect my betareading; after all, I have said many times that betareading will ever supercede my own writing when it comes to my priorities.
I can also be a bit verbose at times, as shown by then length of this profile. On the good side, this grants me a varied vocabulary, so I will be able to understand and comprehend most of what you could possibly write. On the flip side though, I sometimes slip into a flowery type of writing and I may sometimes add in corrections where none are needed just so that the language of the document sounds better. Though I try to limit this, my verbosity sometimes infects my writing.
Although my dedication is something I treasure, it can sometimes be a weakness. As said above, if I start betareading a story then it will become a top priority to me and I will focus on it intently to give it my best efforts. Consequently, I can only take a few requests at a time because, in the end, my focus will be divided between school, my own writing and the improvement of others; if I took many request then my focus will reach its breaking point. So, if I know that I will not be able to focus completely on your story, then I will not take it (although I will help you search for a beta reader if you wish).
Finally, and connecting with my previous mention of dedication, unless I can give you my absolute best work, then I will not allow myself to help you. Therefore, if I do not have a keen understanding of the subject material, then I will not be able to help you, as I would not understand enough of the material to help you in any sense but the grammatical.
Although my weaknesses list is longer then my strengths one, I hope that, taking into consideration what has been written so far, and what is to come, you are beginning to form a clear picture of who I am as a writer and a beta-reader.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Unlike the previous sections of my beta-reader profile, I will simply put this section as bullet points.
-I have no preference to the genre of the story; I have strengths and weaknesses when it comes to genres which can be found below but, if it interests me enough, I will accept a story even if it is one of my weaker genres.
-On account of romance, I am preferable to BL (yaoi, malexmale, however you wish to call it) due to having the most experience with it. I will also beta het and yuri though, but I must warn you that I have less experience with those two.
--Although I can truly only give my best effort in betareading with the English language, I am proficient in Spanish and ancient Greek (both language and culture), so any stories where those elements appear I will be able to aid in.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Due to my open-mindedness, I find that very few things cause me to hesitate in writing. The things that follow do cause me to pause though and, if your story has any of the following, I may decide not to beta it (although that is no guarantee; I may decide to beta your story if the pros outweigh the cons).
-Rape. Forgive me, but rape (especially rape used as a throwaway plot device) is something I can neither write nor deal with; if your story focuses on rape and its consequences or has a detailed scene concerning rape, then I almost assuredly will not be able to beta your story.
-A story whose material I do not know about and/or can not commit myself fully to. Vide supra for reasoning.
Other then these two things, I will read and beta almost everything else.
With the previous sections in mind, do you think that I may be the beta-reader for you? If so, send me a private message and I will contact you back. I am eager and ready to help any whom may wish for my assistance, so do not hesitate to drop me a message if you are interested!
Thank you for taking the time to read this profile and I hope that you find happiness in your writing,
