|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am doing this beta-reading thing because I want to change the way people write. I can't tell you how many stories I have seen with so much potential but improper grammar, spelling, and capitalization issues have dwindled away my attention from it. If I could just teach even just one very talented person to convey their ideas in a readable and pleasant way, I believe it would make my and others' time on the site much more enjoyable.
As for my expectations, all I need is someone who is willing to accept criticism. I will NEVER flame your story, and I believe that everything has a chance. Even if your beginning goes something like, "nd thenn omgg they wre lyk traped nd it wuz soooooooo skaryyy", I will work with it until you have reached your full potential. But be warned -- if you don't have writing talent, I will tell you. It's better to hear it from me in a warm manner than from flame reviewers later on. But as of now, I'm sure that if you keep an agreeable attitude, I'll be willing to tackle anything with you.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Well, I'm wordy. I pretty much always can come up with a different or better way to say something, to make your sentences sparkle. I have a big vocabulary (wait, no, a... gargantuan vocabulary! That's more like it!) and I'm good at writing humor and sarcasm. I would never write for a fandom without feeling as though I know it perfectly, and I read these books and watch these television shows as many times as needed until I do. I am a perfectionist and won't leave something unless it is (in my eyes) the best it can be. I'm a friendly person and work well with other people, and I check my computer multiple times every day, so getting ahold of me won't be a problem.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
While I love to read it, I am really not fantastic at writing romance. It's okay if it's worked in, and not the main part of the story -- in other words, I can do the "there's chemistry between us, but we're not doing anything about us" type of comic relief, but I prefer to keep things light. If your story is completely romance, I'm probably not the best person to beta it.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Pretty much anything besides sappy stories, but also I don't like stories that have been done before. If you have a completely unoriginal idea, I might get bored. And if I get bored, I guarantee your reviewers will follow suit. Be creative! And if you need help, then, that's what I'm here for! :)
As for preferred story types, I like funny oneshots very much, and the occasional romantic fluff piece. But my absolute favorite is the one that has all of these. These are generally much longer, and require more planning. I would be honored to be a part of something like that!
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Extreme romance. Mushy, sappy, Twilight-saga-esque stories. Maximum Ride/Twilight crossovers. Slash stories if the character isn't gay. Uncanon ships (if it isn't implied and would never happen, don't try it, is what I say). Unoriginal ideas. That sort of thing. There probably will be exceptions to these, though, so just try me!
