|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I imagine I am a bit of a perfectionist, and so am very adept at pointing out grammatical errors. In my writing, I am quite descriptive, and can never have things be short. I can portray tragedy well, as well as comedy, and so I'm well-rounded. If you wish to enlist in my services, I only wish that you do so hoping to learn from my help so that you can improve yourself, and that you respect the sort of material that I prefer to do: If your story pretty much belongs on my list of 'Not My Cup of Tea', then do not expect me to answer your request and take it not. Although, I may take it on, if it only crosses that line and it seems a good story anyways. I don't like to discriminate, but there will be things that I won't do, just so you know. Also, if you want me to beta-read for you, I just ask that you make what you want clear, and that you make sure that your preferred format is made known (e.g. Whether thoughts are done in italics or bold, if chapter numbers are in roman numerals or on - just little things that make all the difference).
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm a perfectionist, so all grammatical errors and faults in the flow of the story can be fixed to a high standard. Also, I'm great at portraying tragic events, and using dark plots, such as death, illness, supernatural/fantasy, and gore/cruelty. I know it sounds a little dark, but I can also do much happier, sweeter pieces as well. I am also quite good with complicated plot lines, and my favourite technique is the 'knife on the wall', where something that is barely mentioned early on can become an important part of the plot later (sometimes as late as the sequel). I am great at stories involving medical/mental illness (mainly those on the schizoid spectrum), issues of bullying/racism, love and loss (hurt/comfort, and romance comes in here), suspense and crime. I can also do action-scenes well, but the spy/Bond/Action man thing will not wash. May I also add that, when it comes to OCs, I am adept at avoiding the whole Mary Sue/Gary Stu horror (unless that is entirely the point).
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
If there is definitely one, it's that I just cannot keep things short and sweet, as you'll be able to see from my fanfictions. As a result, I myself cannot physically write drabbles - but I hope to change that soon. Another that I've experienced with my own writing is that I cannot obey deadlines, and that if I start a big project, I tend to be unable to finish. This explains why I am dedicating much of my personal writing to one-shots for now. However, as a beta-reader, I hope to avoid habitual procrastination for the good of you lovely people.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
When writing, I prefer to do stories that look at a previously untouched angle, although I'll tend to keep to timelines. Also, this list is much the same as my strengths, as playing to strengths is great when it can be turned to your advantage. So, I could easily do stories involving: Medical/mental health; issues of bullying/racism/discrimination; tragedy, as well as optimism; supernatural themes (my knowledge of mythology and fantasy is surprisingly substantial); suspense/mystery; crime; gore/cruelty. I can also handle certain types of Sci Fi, this not counting the extraterrestrial bend. I will also do lemons and lime and am (admittedly), a fan of Yaoi and shonen-ai, so this isn't a problem for me. I am very good at portraying violence, and gore, but I there are some lines that shouldn't be crossed. The ratings I prefer to do are T or M, as that is what (as a mature writer) I do myself. That's it.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I am sorry to say this, but when concerning lemons, I will not take on stories of the Sapphic persuasion when they are full on, but only when hinted, as I myself am not familiar with Yuri enough to help you there - anything more than a grope, and I will not comply, I'm afraid to say. Also, I will not do pieces that aim to discriminate and channel personal views to a point that they will offend. A list of genres that I cannot/will not do are Western, Sci Fi to some extent, and Action/Adventure to some extent. There are actually a lot of things I am willing to do, but I will not humour you if I cannot become interested in it. I will also not do a Horror fic if it is just some scary mansion ghostie/Big Bad vampy cliche - as I'm sure you're aware, Ann Rice does not permit the turning of her works into fanfiction, thank you very much.
