|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm Lexx and I'm a stickler for spelling and grammar and I will tell you so. Don't be mad if I tell you it's a piece of... well, you get the picture. I'm honest and fairly reliable when it comes to this sort of thing. I suppose most of this is going to be repeated throughout the profile, but so what? I'm understanding when it comes to time-constraints and work *fairly* well under pressure. I expect you to have re-read your story at least once. If it's simply a rough draft, take your time and edit it once at least. Very rarely will I have time to outline every little detail that I like about the story, but I will take the time to outline every mistake that I find. Also: my english teachers love me... adore me, actually. At least, the ones who can speak properly do. Otherwise, I'm just a thorn in the side. Anyway, just figured that might be something of interest... or not... you know, whatev. I'm chill.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at sticking it out and reading to the very end even if I dislike where the story is going or how it was written. I appreciate that you the writer have taken the time to write something and I'm willing to take the time to help out. I'm good with spelling and grammar, and am currently pursuing a career in professional creative writing, so I am a bit of a perfectionist. I look for life in a story and I also look to help you put that spark into your story if I find it missing. As afore mentioned, english teachers adore/love me and my writing when I actually care about it. I'm normally in a caring mood when I'm reading/writing, so I will do my best and look at a story with my best foot forward.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm a perfectionist. I go insane about the menial stuff and sweat the little bits. I've even lost sleep over a segment of a story or the spelling of a word. This might be considered a strength, but I hate it and a lot of my friends/aquaintances hate it, so I consider it a bit of a downfall.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I love BtVS, especially season 6 (all Spuffy shippers understand), Doctor Who seasons 1 and 2, and ANY Star Wars!!! Favourite ships are listed on my profile page... or they should be, anyway. If there are any questions, feel free to contact me!
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Does it end with "and they lived happily ever after"? If so, I will not touch it. I will not even consider touching it. I will not even consider considering touching it. I really don't do much slash either. Angel/Spike is okay if done right, but I will not stand for Harry/Ron, Merry/Pip, Frodo/Sam, Spike/Dawn (it's just not gonna happen), Spike/Giles (just ew), Spike/Riley (not right on so many levels), Luke/Han, Jack/Sawyer, Jack/Kate, Sun/Michael, Ben/Jules, Locke/anyone, and many other pairings.
Please don't leave me with sappy endings. I don't go for that "and they lived happily ever after, to the end of their days" bull. It doesn't happen in any of the shows, films, or books that I write/read for, so don't try to dump it on me now. I know that I put "romance" as a genre, but don't make it ooey-gooey. I want drama and I want something that turns out at least semi-realistic. Sure, this is fiction, but *nothing* truly ends "happily ever after", so don't fool yourself. That was a bit mean, wasn't it? Ah well, that's life
