Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a novice beta-reader. I am not as picky about the fandom/s of a story as I am a about the overall content. My favorite media are cartoons, books, TV shows and movies. Whenever I proofread something, I triple-check without references, and then I check them an additional time with references. Co-authorship is appreciated, especially with crossovers. The categories I like to write vary depending on what I am currently reading or watching. My current favorite single category of stories to write [non-crossover] is Arthur. About the categories listed below, I'm not an expert on the majority of them, but I believe I can write a simple story about the characters as long as it's in the genres of friendship, family, or humor.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I know basic rules of grammar. My stories' comprehension level, I believe, is suitable for grades 4 through 6, but they can be enjoyed by readers of all ages. I am used to writing stories in script format because I write comic strips. So whenever I write scripts in narrative format, it's just okay. I also like writing stories in first person [i.e. journal entries, letters]. I can also write four different kinds of poetry: clerihew, haiku, biopoem, and acrostic. I try my best to make sure my stories get finished by writing several chapters in advance before I publish the first chapter online.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I find it very difficult to create original characters, which may have to do with the neurological disorder dyspraxia and the learning style of Concrete Sequential. I also have trouble describing specific scenes for each chapter.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer betaing single fandom fanfics or two-way crossovers, but ultimate crossovers are welcome. I like AU's and parodies as well as gap-fillers and landmark moments. I also prefer stories with short chapters [under a thousand words in length] but I am willing to read chapters up to five thousand words long. Depending on the fandom, I like stories to be authentic. Examples of fandoms I have found to be the most authentic are: Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Get Smart, Tale Spin, and Tangled. If there is a fandom with which I find some vital moments dissatisfying, then I would like to see them changed enough to be improved while still being close to the fandom. For example: Arthur, Inkheart, Series of Unfortunate Events. Then there are those fandoms that I appreciate, but I would like more if they were much cleaner. For example: Back to the Future, Over the Hedge.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I will never read anything rated M. I am not willing to betaread any T-rated fanfics either. If you want me to betaread a story that is rated K-Plus, it would have to be on the mild side of K-Plus, and not contain any sex or sexual references.
