|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello all! I suppose I should state a few things about myself as a betareader, just like the directions tell me! For starters, I have not been on this website for long, so I may not be your first choice if you are looking for someone experienced. Also, I am young (16), so if you do not feel comfortable with my checking your work I understand. When I read a story, I look for three main things; dialogue, strong plot, and good characterization. With these things I feel that anyone can have a decent story. My expectations as a betareader are simple. Have a basic story line (not the whole thing planned out, trust me, I never do, but at least know where you want the story to go). If you change your mind about things, I really don't care, but don't change the plot in the middle of the story because that is always confusing and never really works. Also, if you would like me to be your betareader, please update somewhat frequently. Other than that, I don't have many expectations. Oh! I can't read any other languages but English and French, so um, I guess I expect the story to be in English? haha.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a strong background in writing (I was accepted into the Johns Hopkins writing program at 11, and I have been in honors english classes for 6 years), and I am very good at fixing things like deviation from plot and character patterns (for example: if you changed the personality of a character halfway through a story, I would catch that and fix it). Also, I am decently good at grammar and I can correct improper uses of it, however, don't ask me to dissect a sentence because I can't :). I believe that one of my stronger writing points is dialogue, and I would be very willing to assist anyone with that.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As previously mentioned, I am not a perfectionist at grammar, although I can fix it when used incorrectly. I'd say, the weakest part of my writing is description, in that, I tend to either go overboard, or I completely forget to use it. However, I would not say that it would affect my betareading abilities, and I could fix any issues that there might be in a descriptive part of a story.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I would probably prefer to beta stories that were strong in plot and characterization. I feel that those two elements are crucial, and I would much rather see a strong plot than strong dialogue or description. I'm open to reading anything though. As far as story types, I really prefer romance and humor type stories, although I also love the adventure themed stories. I'm not much of an agnst reader, in fact I avoid it, but I can certainly beta it if needed.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'm not really up for slashings. They just don't suit me and I don't think I would be good at betareading them.
