|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I approach the work aspect of beta-reading with almost clinical precision, offering input as desired. I focus primarily on a writer's strong suits and encourage them to utilize such to their fullest potential before I illustrate points where I feel they can improve, and do so in a constructive manner. I do not allow grammatical or syntax errors to get past my attention, and will always have a selection of synonyms available for the writer who wishes to strengthen their piece.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a strong grasp of the English language, including technical skill as well as a repertoire of synonyms for virtually any case. I have been praised for my ability to write believable combat encounters for both superpowered and "ordinary" characters. Stephen King and Brian Keene are significant influences of mine, and I draw much of my ability for exposition of a scene from their writing styles. Despite the fact that I might seem like a bit of a know-it-all from the professional wording of this introduction, I also tend to form close working relationships with writers who come my way (ask Kalika Barlow!) and have been told I am a very approachable human being.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I work a highly demanding job, which can sometimes result in me dropping off the grid for a few days at a time. This does not mean I have abandoned your work, but only that I want to approach it when I'm at my best.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I feel most comfortable in working with science fiction settings, with particular emphasis on postapocalyptic or cyberpunk-inspired imagery. Anti-heroes and tragic or sympathetic villains are among my favorite character archetypes to read, and thus to work with.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't typically deal as effectively with stories in which romance is the primary focus; I view it as a means to advance plot, rather than a suitable central plot for a piece.
