Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
First off, everything I read, I read with a clear and open mind. I'm always open to reading different, new things that haven't been tried before or aren't used that much. I love original concepts and ideas, and I'm usually willing to betaread something that I'm normally not into. I don't bite, all you have to do is ask.

Spelling and grammar come second to the overall story. Is the plot interesting, or is it rather boring and unoriginal? Are the characters believable, or do they seem fake and too perfect? All of these things are much more important than whether or not you use "you're" right. While grammar is very important if you want people to take your work seriously, the substance is much more so.

Just a warning, though: I don't sugarcoat ANYTHING. If I find I problem with something you have written, or if I find something to be unrealistic or odd, I will point it out and I will be honest about it. I will only praise you as much as your work permits, but I'm never unnecessarily nasty either, because in all reality there is no reason to be. You ask me to betaread something, that's what I will do. I won't just agree with whatever you write down.

I will never criticize your writing because I don't agree with your characters. It is your decision to decide what they do and think, not mine. For example, if you want to write a story where the main character is homophobic, then fine. I don't agree with it and it makes me uncomfortable, but I won't automatically assume that you are homophobic because of it.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Diction, details, dialogue. If your dialogue seems jerky and unrealistic, then people may lost interest. If you don't give readers enough detail on things they'd like to know about, they may use interest. If you use the same words over and over again, they may lose interest.

I will admit to being a dialogue nazi - I can't stress this enough. What irks me more than anything is when an otherwise perfectly good story has jerky, bizarre, and/or unrealistic dialogue. However, don't feel bad if dialogue isn't your strong point. One of my favorite authors of all time, H.P. Lovecraft's dialogue was absolutely dreadful in my opinion. But he somehow made it work.

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Grammar is not my strong point. I've even been known to totally disregard a few rules of grammar in order to correctly portray my point.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I LOVE a good romance - it's one of my guilty pleasures xD However, for some reason I am always more critical of romance than I am any other genre.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'm not a big fan of mysteries, unless they are done exceptionally well. It's not the writer, it's just that they can't normally keep my attention.
