|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am an experienced beta-reader. I have done this numerous times for around five years now, and my services aren't just limited to stories, either; I have beta-read play and game scripts, storyboards, comics and so on. Naturally, though, for this site, my services will be concentrated in the story-based areas.
I tend to look for not only grammar or spelling mistakes, but also keeping characters consistent, IC and not straying off too far from what they originally were meant to be in the canon (unless that's your intention, do let me know). I have no special requirements, anyone can ask me to beta-read for them; as long as you enjoy the story you're writing, I'll enjoy helping you perfect it c:
As to which fandom I can help you with, just ask. I know a lot of anime/manga out there nowadays, including the less popular ones, as well as books and games, so don't feel afraid to question me.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at spotting most grammar and spelling mistakes. I am a punctuation-freak, so expect me to throw in dots, commas, semi-colons and all sorts of other things into your block of text to make it more appealing. I believe beta-reading isn't limited to just correcting errors though. When beta-reading, I sometimes shift around sentences, shorten or lengthen them, to get rid of any awkwardness or strange grammar (I've seen this plenty times in fanfiction, hence I felt the need to mention it, but if you're confident with your sentence-building, you don't have to worry, I won't alter your whole story haha).
Lastly, I will try to keep the characters you use in-character, and will tell you if they act OOC - unless you specifically tell me not to.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm picky. No, really - I tend to nit-pick throughout the story and notice minute details. I'm sure there's more, but at the moment I can't think of many other weaknesses - not to say I am a perfect beta, by all means am not, it's just difficult to talk about what I do wrong when trying to right others. If you have any criticism of me, do let me know so that I could include them here, haha. One thing that may bother you is I tend to be biased towards British English spellings as opposed to American, so I do apologize in advance if I accidentally change the spellings of words that are actually correct.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
As long as it's not a sappy, cliche romance, I'm willing to beta-read it for you. However, if this is important to know, then I enjoy reading yaoi and shoujo-ai/yuri more than straight/hetero romance. I can handle hetero just fine though, don't let my homo-preferences put you off; I decided to admit to this since there's a lot of gay fanfiction writers out there and I know they can be shy asking about the beta's comfort levels, haha.
Genre wise, my favourites are action, mystery and humour. I tend to be a bit of a sucker for drama/angst, but that's just a personal sadistic preference of mine. I'm fine with violence, swearing, sexual themes and so on. AU isn't a problem.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
There isn't a story I will refuse to read. Even if I do not know the original setting, I will still try to help out. Generally, I prefer serious stories with a lot of heart and thought put into them, than short and funny ones; it's just not my style.
Also, if your story has a romantic focus on two characters I absolutely hate together, I probably won't beta it for you, sorry. I do hope you understand haha, so you'll have to mention what sort of pairings your fanfiction will include. I don't do OC-based romance (characters made up by you x character in the original fandom).
