|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I may be somewhat judgmental at first when I beta a work, especially on chapter length, length of sentences, words used, and what not. However, I also make my best attempts and being unbiased; I will usually become softer on the work rather quickly, which may be a matter of seconds (I sucked at writing when I started to write stories, too). This "flaming" and "criticizing" (if there is anything to be flamed and/or criticized) is usually done in my head, or most of it, anyway, which will usually turn into an understanding of the work. If I am harsh at first in my response, remember that I myself may have read it too hastily, and I may very well be in the wrong and you in the right. Also, because works come as individual chapters, you, the author, may have some "hidden" purpose behind the chapter, so don't go emo over a sentence or two from my response. When your writing is misunderstood, remember this: "To be great is to be misunderstood"- Ralph Waldo Emerson.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I like Adventure genres the most. If it is science, I will like it as well; I have Chemistry and Physics text books to look up (lol); one of my strongest subjects at school is in science. Also, in my opinion, I am good at battle scenes, in making them more descriptive, elaborate, etc. And I could help with summaries, but no guarantees on that.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not that good at romance and "mushy" scenes. In fact, it is best for me to avoid them. Also, if the chapter(s) are ridiculously long then you may not get any fast replies. I'm also not that good at reading dozens of one-sentence paragraphs of dialogue about what seems at the moment of nonsense (the "nonsense" may have a strong purpose later on, and I will try to remember that as well as I can); it's kinda hard for me to keep track of everything. And with that, if there are 20 or 30 characters (talking at the same times), running everywhere at 3 different locations doing different things, and each with individual histories, some having no last name but instead have 2 first names (hint, hint), then it would also be hard for me to keep track of all of them (sometimes just keeping track of their names is difficult for me.)
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Adventure is my preferred genre, as well as sci-fi. I don't write horror stories, but I can review them, as long as I don't faint in the middle of the chapter/story. ;)
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Romance stories (a little is okay, as long as it is not the driving force in the story). And anything of a "highly explicit nature." And if there's a swear word in every other sentence, then I would prefer not to beta read those, either.
