|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I want to be a beta. I have been a member for over a month, and I have more stories to put up (totaling way more than the required 6000 words), so soon I will be ready to acquire a beta job. I look forward to it. My style is to offer corrections of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. I also try to correct any factual errors that I find (e.g. If someone misuses a phrase or a medical term, I will let them know.) I think I will be a great beta because I have plenty of experience editing people's work, and I am the go-to girl with my friends whenever they need help on papers for school. I know that you do not get a grade for fanfictions, but they are still important to me. Let me know what I can do.
Here's a little background, in case anyone is wondering. I am teacher candidate from the Montgomery area. I was born and raised a Southern gal in Mississippi and moved to wonderful Montgomery when I was 7. I lived in Birmingham for a time on my own while attending college, but had a few too many bad experiences there, so that city leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. I changed my major to teaching and moved back home. With the falling economy, it was necessary to find a cheaper way to attend college. I was left with two options: dropping out and going back later, or moving home. I chose to move home to my loving parents and two pups. All of my family is here anyway. I am interested in becoming a beta so I can practice my basic skills in a fun way. I need to keep sharp if I am going to be a teacher, and I bore easily, so finding an interesting way to practice is a bit difficult for me. Anyway, if you think I sound like someone who you would like to beta for you, just send me a message, or whatever you do. I just started submitting 3 days ago, and I have a backlog of stories to put up, so I am new at this, but I'll learn my way around fast enough. :D
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am awesome at grammar, spelling, and especially punctuation. I try to read everything with a critical eye, and sometimes I find so many mistakes that I get frustrated, but I am always polite. I can see where people have major potential, despite their poor grammar, and I love to see it. But enough about me. Most of all I love to read. So send it on, and I'll read it! :D
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As a writer, I am slightly lazy, and do not write at a steady rate. I write when I am bored or when I feel like it, or have nothing to do, or most especially when I have time, but my brain is always working. People say I live in a fantasy world half the time. And I am not very creative. I love to get topics from other people, so if there is something you want me to write about, email me and I'll get started! :D I guess my weakness as a beta is that cometimes if a name is mispelled but obvious, I'll let you know but I'll just read around it. Like if you spell Fate instead of Fayt. That way it's obvious what you are talking about.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
No preference really, but I do appreciate it if you would keep the cursing to a minimum. I don't particularly like to have the F-bomb dropped on me more than a few times per story. I think it really takes away from the plot. That's just my opinion though! :D
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Well, I would not really REFUSE to read anything, but I like happy endings most of the time. Stories that make me cry are usually not my favorites. Though it is good to cry every once in a while. I don't mind too much. On a side note, I am not a fan of two particular couples: Bella and Edward from Twilight, and Fayt and Maria from SO3. Honestly, I am under the impression, like many others, that Fayt and Maria are twins, and I do not like the whole incest idea. Also, it irritates me that they do not break SO into SO1,2,and 3. I only know anything about SO3, so don't send me anything from SO1 or 2, because I know NOTHING about them. Sorry. That is all. Oh, and please don't send me anything in a PDF. I really dislike that format because my computer has a hard time with it. Thanks! :D
