|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've been writing for years now, and although I am one of the newer members to Fanfiction, I am not to the art of literature. As a beta reader, I will try my hardest to give constructive criticism to improve your work, but I enjoy learning from the experience as well. I am in an AP Charter school, so my time to beta may be somewhat limited. I will be on every day, and you can certainly expect your latest installment to be reviewed within two to three days. My style... I don't quite know what to say to that, since I'm new to this, but as a writer, my style is more languid and flowing than anything else. I take care with proper grammar and use of language, and I may be inclined to shape your writing to this a bit more. However, that's not to say that your story won't be yours - of course it will be. I do like to add my own bit of flair, if you permit it. As a beta, I can also help you with the direction you want a fic to go into, such as new plot ideas, and more. I'm not the most creative person, but I can throw my two cents in there. As for what I expect, I will require that if I am beta-ing a multi-chapter fic, that updates be made regularly ( at the pace you'd like to go at - but not one update a month, and then three simultaneously. ). I also would enjoy it if the author was accepting of my input, instead of me simply scanning the lines for punctuation errors.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
One of my strengths is probably my style. I tend to use more of a liquid style, allowing thoughts and paragraphs to flow, rather than be more abrupt. I am also quite good at catching spelling and grammar errors. One area where I excel at is vocabulary. I am a quite fluent speaker, reader, and writer of Latin, and I enjoy fitting in Latin-based root words or even just Latin into my stories. It also helps me tremendously with grammar, because I can easily identify what case things should be in, and how all of the parts of a sentence should correspond with one another.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sentence structure is probably one of my greatest weaknesses as a writer. I tend to go off on long-winded tangents, and use commas instead of periods, without giving the reader a break. Part of it is my style, but the rest is simple human error. I am also quite the grammar nazi. Rather hypocritical, but I do have quite an issue with missed commas or awkward passages. But I most certainly won't berate you for it, so no worries about that.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I enjoy reading and writing angst. I simply love the way you can convey so much emotion without visually seeing what's going on - using only your words. I also like slash, but I can appreciate a well-done het pairing as well. I would be more inclined to enjoy a fic if it was slash, but as I said before, het is fine with me. Fics that are subtle in their ways are also appealing - I won't be able to properly enjoy something if one chapter, the characters hate each other, next they're kissing. In-depth exploration of emotion is definitely preferred over abruptness.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
None whatsoever. I enjoy pushing my limits.
