Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I may work better as a beta than a writer, because I will be working off of you. However everything depends on what you need me for: if you need someone to bounce plot ideas around with, if you need me to stay entirely out of it and simply grammar- and spell-check, if you need help fleshing out details, if you need a second person to find areas you need to be more clear or can stand to be less direct. If you know what you need from me as a beta, ask. A clear explanation of what you're looking for will allow me to work best towards your needs. I will most likely try toward any expectations you give me, but if I am incapable then I will say so.

Also, please be clear on how much of your spelling and grammar you'd like for me to correct. Without specification, I won't be able to tell what is intentional due to your style or the story's mood (such as a run-on sentence that reflects a character's state of mind), and what is a genuine mistake that needs correcting (like a tense shift that just slipped out). Generally my standard will be 'informal' - for example, I won't correct "gonna" when in dialogue, or I'll leave prepositions at the end of a sentence. However if you really want every grammar rule followed, I'll use 'whom,' 'which,' semi-colons, Oxford commas, 'whose' and 'who's,' 'phenomena' and 'phenomenon' - whatever you need. If you want to write without contractions, I'll go back and change every 'can't' to 'cannot.' If you need me to find any place you tense shift and see if it's jarring, I can.

In all, the better we communicate, the better I'll be able to meet your needs.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I love word choice. Sometimes I won't be able to continue a scene because I'm hung up on a word I can't remember. Generally, my thesaurus or friends are able to help me pin it down. (In fact, even if you don't have something for me to beta but maybe you're just trying to think of a specific word, feel free to ask me.) If that's important to you, I might make a good fit. As a beta, I might make suggestions to choosing one word over another, but if you are set on a word or phrase, I will gladly comply, as it is your work. When working with/for others, don't be afraid to ask me to redo something multiple times if it does not satisfy you. You aren't bothering me. I'm your beta for a reason. I'm very patient and if you need me to rework a sentence or paragraph or chapter three times over because you're still not happy, I will. I'm also good at grammar and spelling, if you need a less intrusive type of editing and want the flesh of the story left alone. I work best when you are clear with what you want me to do and how involved you want me to be.

If you want to see my strengths as a writer, you might appreciate a first-hand perspective more than my own, so feel free to glance through my most recent stories.

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
There are times I might be too fond of cliches, but since I'll be working off your own writing, that shouldn't be a problem. My biggest weakness as a beta would probably be that I'm not usually on every day. As with my strengths, you might prefer to form your own opinion of my weaknesses, so feel free to glance through my most recent stories.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I probably prefer to beta fandoms I'm in, rather than something I have no knowledge of. But I'll do my best regardless.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Probably staying away from overly-crackish or random stories.
