|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta, I'll do a few different things.
1) I'll let you know how your story matches up with your intent. For example, if you're going for a drama, I'll let you know if it's too fluffy. 2) If your characters are too OOC, I'm going to call you out on it and make suggestions. 3) I'll make a couple of suggestions of where to take the story, if it's a multific. 4) I will check your grammar. And double-check it. And possibly triple-check it. I'm a stickler for grammar. 5) If you send me something that is so ridiculously rude or disrespectful that I personally cannot condone being associated with, I will let you know and consider terminating our writing relationship.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am very good at delving into characters, especially the psychology of said characters. I have a very detailed style of writing in my own work, and I like seeing attentiveness when it comes to stories. I am also very detail-oriented when it comes to grammar. In general, I stick to my convictions and won't be the type of beta that just says, "Amazing job, nothing for me to do." In writing, there is always room for improvement.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As a beta, I stick to my convictions, but I sometimes need a little time to figure out exactly what those convictions are. People have told me that I can sometimes nitpick, although I try not to. Also, time constraints may occasionally be an issue.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'd prefer to beta multifics or longish oneshots, although I'll consider poetry as well, though I don't like critiquing poetry (to me it's a form of therapy). Romance, suspense, drama, angst, and hurt/comfort are what I love. I'll read an occasional humor, too; I'm not completely closed to that. I usually have certain ships I'll stick to, but I'm open to a little change...to a certain extent. For example, I'm not completely opposed to slash or a slightly weird couple, but I'll only beta it or write it if it makes sense within the context of the actual story, show, movie, etc.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I will NOT betaread crackfics. Under any circumstance. I personally see no use for them. They can be fun to write, but they're not very fun for me to read. Also, I love poetry, but I don't beta it because I believe that a poem is perfect for a specific moment. You can't change the moment, therefore you can't change the poem. Third, if the ship is too out there (and possibly a little gross), I might refuse. (Ex: no Ziva/Gibbs, Abby/Gibbs, Tony/Kim, Cam/Zack, etc.)
