|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I like working with authors who are at least fairly confident in their abilities to write. In my mind, a beta reader shouldn't be an "editor," but a source of support for an author. As a beta reader, it isn't my job to make edits to your work like a teacher would, but rather to suggest ways to enhance your story. I'll certainly point out errors as I see them, and offer constructive criticism, but I feel that an open path of communication is the most important connection between an author and their beta reader. I want you to take my suggestions seriously, but ultimately whatever I suggest is just that- a suggestion. You, as the author, should choose whether or not to follow it through, or to ignore my advice. I won't be offended if you don't agree with my input.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a strongly developed writing style and grasp of language and grammar. It's easy for me to point out phrases or sentences that don't flow well, and find a better way of saying something I'm a critical reader, so I'll pick up on consistency errors, problems with the flow of writing or the ease of reading, as well as the 'picky' things like spelling and grammar.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't have much patience for stories that aren't formatted correctly. If you can't be bothered to break up paragraphs and want to just send a big block of text to me, don't bother. I won't respond.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'm cool with pretty much anything, as well as it's well-written and somewhat original.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I won't beta read incest fic, or anything else you think would fit into that level of squick. I'm okay with beta reading fiction that deals with uncomfortable scenarios (ie. violence, crime, abuse) as long as you aren't just using those things as a plot device, and the characters involved have realistic reactions.
