|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a hermit-myself-in-a-hole-and-rustle-around-until-it-becomes-my-niche and read-until-I-fall-asleep kind of betareader. I like to see a project to the end. I'm a very open individual, so please, if you have a story, at least run it by me, I'm pretty much certain to accept. I can beta a 500 word submission or a 50,000 one. Obviously one will take longer than the other. You can send me one chapter and have me beta that, but you don't have to feel obligated to send me a second. Please, submit away! This bibliophile truly appreciates it.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Basic editing, grammar, and spelling. I am a very forthright person, so I don't hold back; I understand the need for accurate, honest feedback. Last I checked, I read 356 wpm. Responses to submitted chapters will come fairly quickly, unless I notify you otherwise. I am proud of a large, varied vocabulary, and have a penchant for niche words.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Somewhere in my weird, warm, softie insides, there is a little monster that eats cheesiness for breakfast like it just don't care. I resent cliches, damsels in distress, and those little annoying "once upon a time" phrases. And possibly most of all, I don't like pliant plots that bend and twist into unreal shapes. By that I mean if your plot is wild and too unrealistic, I have no problems being honest about that. As I said before, I understand the need for real feedback.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I don't really have any preferences. However, if you submit a chapter to me that obviously hasn't been edited/spellchecked/proofread by yourself even once, I will be much less friendly. I do not appreciate free loaders. If you make this mistake, I will of course thoroughly edit it the first time, but bring it to your attention and expect you to do yourself an honest favor and proofread the next one. My favorite stories are sci-fi/romance/action/adventure/fantasy. I'd prefer those genres but am willing to work with any story.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I adamantly believe that every story with trigger topics in it needs a warning. It's simply a courtesy, especially to those sensitive to the topic. That said, if your story is one of said stories, I just ask that you give me a warning ahead of time. Triggers: rape, murder, self-harm, torture, spousal abuse, sexual abuse, violence against children, drug abuse, alcoholism, genocide (a more rare but severe trigger), and racism - off the top of my head. If any of these are a recurring theme of your story, a warning in the summary is a must. For me, my triggers are rape, sexual abuse, violence against children, and torture (my recommendation from the start that you omit any scenes that include torture).
