I have been around here for a long time, but it's been a long time since I've done much writing myself. I started writing fan fiction when I was 10, and I am now 28. I have a degree in sociology (lots of research, lots of writing) and some experience in technical writing and editing. In my day job, I write lots of proposals, letters, etc. If you are looking for someone to help with spelling, grammar, punctuation etc. than I can definitely be of service to you. I am also more than happy to help you figure out characterization, plotline or whatever else. I enjoy bouncing around ideas and helping out with whatever I can. br /
PLEASE don't send me something that you've put no thought or effort into that is riddled with mistakes and inconsistencies. I realize that part of the job of a beta is to correct those mistakes, but it should not take more time or effort for me to read and edit than it did for you to write. I am here to help you, not hold your hand and do everything for you. Take the initiative and run your work through a spellcheck at the very least, maybe give it another read and see what you can catch yourself. Because honestly, if you don't care about your first draft, I don't care enough to /
But if you want my help, please do this: PM me. Tell me a little about yourself (including your age group, because I like to know what I'm dealing with in terms of skill levels) and your story, including any ideas you might have for future developments. "Please read my Harry Potter story" is not good enough for me, sorry. Give me enough information that I can fairly decide if I can be of help to you. Also give me an idea of when/how often you plan on updating, so I can fit it into my schedule. If you update Wednesdays, tell me this so I can make sure I have a chapter edited and ready for you by Tuesday at the /
As far as my style... I make all changes in pink, so that you notice them. I will also add comments, whether I liked something, something confused me or something just makes no sense. If you stockpile your chapters, I will do the same during my breaks from work or school so that you have posting-ready chapters for whenever you need them. I am also more than happy to do a second or even third round of edits if you feel like you need them, or have made a lot of changes since I first edited and want me to doublecheck that you fixed everything.
