|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have a passion for writing and love reading stories with a critical eye to make them even better. I expect that anyone who wants to have me read their stories have a basic understanding of story construction and English and that they be open to criticism and suggestions. I will usually pick out things like general story arcs, grammar points, awkwardness of writing and will help by offering one or more options to correct whatever I notice. I always will leave the final decision for changing the chapters up to you, so I won't get annoyed if you ignore my /
I've been beta reading stories for my best friend, Zenappa, so I'm not completely inexperienced. I would love to get to know someone else's writing style and be able to help them polish their stories!br /
My experience in English is that of a student in 11th grade English. I'm currently enrolled in English 11A honors and have signed up to take AP Language next year, so I hope that my already strong skills will be enhanced to an even more advanced level in the next year!
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm pretty good with detecting incorrect word usage, tensing, awkward phrasing, and plot holes in stories. Generally speaking, I can offer suggestions on how to make the writing make more sense and flow better while still retaining your own writing /
I'm also fair at conventions of print and figuring out how to properly use them. I wouldn't consider myself a grammar expert, but I have a pretty solid knowledge of the rules of English.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I should honestly be put in some sort of author's jail for my abuse of commas. I will use SO many commas in the wrong spaces, it's not even funny. I've probably done some of that in this message, actually. It's something that I'm working on, but if you're looking for someone to correct your comma usage, it's not me. XDbr /
This isn't to say that I can't fix grammar at all, just that I seriously suck at comma placement and usage!
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I have more of a passion to read stories when they are of a fandom that I personally like. I know the characters, the world, and the rules for the genre that the story operates under if I am a fan of the original thing. Within the fandoms, I'm open to most pairings and plots, even if I'm not a huge fan, I will still read them. It would be awesome if I agreed with your pairing, but it's not required. There's a list of a few of my favorites on my profile, but it's incomplete, of course!
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I have nothing against these types of fiction, but I would prefer not to read anything that is extremely "M" in nature or any slash fiction. I just personally would rather not read these two types of stories. Also, a side note: I will read stories that are angsty or depressing in nature, but if it gets to be excessive, I just can't read that much sadness all at once. I respect all forms of writing, but I like being happy, and reading something that is overbearingly sad or emotionally depressing just makes me so bored and unhappy. I'm easily affected by literature, and that makes it hard to read things of that nature.
