|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have been writing for about six years now, and I hope (?) I'm getting better. Most of my personal writing is rather dark, descriptive, emotional, and character-centered rather than plot-centered. When it comes to being a beta reader, I will personally make all of the grammar corrections, but for certain things (character development, continuity errors, etc.) I will ask you about them personally. I do this because I want to follow your story's feel to a tee, and leave as little a footprint as possible. It is YOUR story, after all; I'm just here to help. Also, along those lines, please tell me a bit about your story, what you're going for, what the plot is, how you want it to end, etc., BEFORE sending it to you. I will give you honest feedback, and, I won't lie, I tend to nitpick. Don't expect me to baby you and tell you how wonderful you're writing is; that is what your mother is for. I am here to help. I expect my author's to at least be competent at what they do; that's all I ask. Also, be ready to accept constructive criticism; I will likely send LOTS your way. I would also my authors keep their words-per-chapter ratio under 5000. It's a pet peeve of mine when people have chapters a million miles long. It will take longer for me and take longer for your readers. Remember, the Internet has a short attention span. This is how I beta; send me your story via DocX. I will copy into Word and highlight or note anything in need of changing. I will also include notes. Please give me your own personal notes on what to look out for, otherwise I won't know. I will then send it back via DocX with corrections and notes. To recap; I am your girl if:-you want constructive criticism-you have emotional stories-you want your grammar done well-you want your story to be pleasing to the ears and the eyes (yes, believe it or not, especially a story that is posted on one page, aesthetic appeal is VERY IMPORTANT, at least to me)-you want a descriptive story. I am probably not so good if:-you are only here to share your love of the fandom, not to improve your writing skills-if you cannot take criticism, or do not want itPlease take me into consideration; I will try my very best!
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am the grammar Nazi; that's my main strength as a beta. As a writer, however, I am very much into description and painting a very vivid picture of what is going on in the scene (or, at least, my latest writing is. My older stuff is kinda bad). I'm bilingual in both French and English, so all you Hetalia fic writers out there who want to write a France/Canada/any other French-speaking nation fic, I can help keep you away from the jarring language-destroying monstrosity that is Google Translate. At least when it comes to French. I tend to use poetic phrases to describe things, so if you wish me to correct a bit of your writing (which I advise against; it is YOUR writing, after all. But, if you wish, I will) in that style, I won't mind.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
If your writing really bugs me (which won't be likely; I have been on this site long enough to become impervious to it) I won't be able to concentrate hard enough to do anything about it. I'm kinda anal that way. Examples of writing that bug me; completely sans grammar, serious OOC, a plot that goes nowhere (which I am guilty of), etc. I will try to ignore it and give you hints, but still. It will take away from the final product. This sorta falls into the above "I expect my writer to be competent" category in my bio. As it is my style, I will probably push you to be more and more descriptive. If this bugs you, don't come to me; I can guarantee it will happen almost every time. Tend to overuse commas and semi-colons just a tad. They're kinda my guilty grammar pleasure, if that makes sense. I'm really, really trying to stop telling instead of showing. So far, that is my weakness, but I am putting some serious effort into stopping it.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I would prefer to do emotional pieces, as those are what I am good at. Fluffy stuff, you know? Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Romance, etc. I also love Cardverse for all you Hetalia fans. Love historical fiction! Also love supernatural, fantasy, and sci-fi. Interested in doing suspense/thriller/horror/mystery, though I have never written in those genres.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Action/Adventure; love to read it, though it is nearly impossible for me to write and therefore nearly, though slightly less, impossible for me to beta. My sense of humour is extremely messed, so I should probably stay away from comedy. No second person stories (where the anonymous YOU is the protagonist). Besides that, I'm pretty much good.
