Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love reading, I love fanfiction, I'm quite possibly insane and I definitely eat instant noodles way more than I should do. I'm on here every day without fail - sad, right? - though I can't always promise to respond daily. You will be more important than my own fanfiction, but never as important as my school work. br /

I've read a LOT of beta profiles in the many hours I've spent looking for someone personally. And what always comes up is this - 'I'm good at spelling and grammar'. Wonderful - but this isn't an exam, this is a story. So my style is to be there for every OC crisis, every plot twist that's too obvious, every plot twist that's too complicated... and I gift ye with the power of spell-check for the rest of it.

br /

I can do email or DocX or telepathic communication (the signal isn't brilliant here, though) and I really have no expectations of writers. You hear a lot about how 'I won't beta for 5 year-olds' and 'if it's not worth the space, I won't do it' but really, we all start in the same place! So if you're 13, attempting your first fic and keep forgetting capitals? I'm here to help, because I would have done anything to have someone there when I first /

My style as a beta depends entirely on how you work best. The most thorough way takes the most time, the quickest way is liable to error. Personally I think betas should be harsh - you feel less like a failure if you have someone being completely honest and telling you what bits will lose you reviewers. But I'll always be your biggest fan too, no matter how annoying I may seem.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm best at consistency, at being upbeat and cheery, at spotting when you've repeated a word and spending a long time going over stuff like plot with you and generating ideas. You can be honest with me - if you think I'm being an imbecile, you can say that. If you think I'm going too far, you can say that. If you want more from me, you can say that. And I will never, ever ignore /

br /

I strongly suggest you read my more recent fics to get a feel for me. I can't tell you how good I am - you have to decide if you like my style, or if I wouldn't suit you at all. You don't have to read a review or read a lot, but I often find that it really helps me to see if I trust and believe their beta profile, as not everyone is 'accurate' when they say they're good at something:-)

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Okay, the word technophobic just had to come up, didn't it? I'm not scared of technology, technology is scared of me. Which is why it breaks, runs, hides and generally goes into full scale panic mode every time I come near, death to the guy who invented electricity. So please, bear with me if I return your fic without attaching the document or send you the same message twenty times:-) Also, I am at war with the 'br' thing that is plastered all over my beta profile, especially since it chops off the end of my paragraph. Please forgive me, I am a failure with /

I also identify cars as 'red car' and 'green car' (and occasionally 'nice car', but only if the car is actually a horse lorry - I love horses). If the word 'engine' is going to come up frequently in your fic, I may *cough will cough* struggle. The same goes for guns and planes and phones and computers and alien spaceships. I can do medieval swords, but that's about it. br /br /br /

Grammar, spellings, as mentioned above is just - I suck at it, really I do. I read the first chapter or so if your grammar is just impeccable and beyond me, then you know that I'm keeping an eye out but not expert enough to rival you. I bow to the computer's expert knowledge of these things and do whatever the squiggly lines tell me to, so you'll have to be the grown-up on this. I cower in the corner when the spelling books come out:-)

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Pretty much anything. I love every sort of fanfic and whether it be a short drabble or a massive hundreds of thousands of words project, I'd want to do anything. I'm equally as happy to do poetry - I'm a strong believer in the phrase 'poetry is nearer to vital truth than history' by Plato. I'll also do lemons, and I WILL DO HALF DONE FICS. I've had a fic that I wanted to get beta'd, but couldn't because it was already started... or maybe that was just because it was dreadful. But yes, I will do any pairing and any fandom I know.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
How do I put this lightly? I read this Twilight fic once were Bella was made black and the entire town became racist, just so the guy could comfort her. And that makes me squirm a bit, when you're talking about stuff like that, I think you need to tread lightly. For example I don't like the term 'grammar Nazi', I disappear the moment I see it written because I think it's demeaning to take something evil like the Holocaust and then just - disrespect /

I'm a big fan of proper warnings, I don't mind any kind of fic at all but I don't like stumbling across stuff without realising what the content will be. Ever accidentally opened a lemon, whilst in the car with mummy and daddy? Not good, guys, not good.
