Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
First and foremost, I'm a writer who loves to read. I tend to look for people who are familiar with how set up a plot in a story, who have a good grasp on characterization (which is something I can help with if the case calls for it), and who have already been acquainted with their spell check. I don't mind pointing out random spell check and grammatical errors (that's what a beta reader is for, after all), but please neaten it up before sending my way.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I can help you find grammar/spelling problems, punctuation, narration, etc. All general things that writers tend to overlook even on their third pass over a story-sometimes simply because it's theirs. I'm also pretty good with catching continuity errors.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not comfortable finding and pointing out historical/geographical/scientific errors unless they're so standout that a third-grader might see them. :) While I appreciate reading about these things, if a mistake is made, I probably won't find it.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Obviously, I would prefer stories taking place within the different television shows I watch. I can't find character or continuity mistakes if I'm unfamiliar with the history of the show. Within these shows, I like *almost* every genre. The ones I would not read are listed below. I'm not a huge fan of crazy, out-there pairings but don't have a huge problem with it, either.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't mind darkfic, and things that stretch characters involved as long as the characters are someone true to their canon self. Also don't mind AU, as long as it's not AU before the beginning of the show-I like to read about the character's lives as I know them. This isn't a hard and fast rule, though; I've made exceptions to it depending on the story premise.
