|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a 24 year old college student who has been working towards both a biology and a zoology degree since 2008. I have been actively, on the privacy of my laptop, reviewing and correcting fan fictions for the better part of two years, and I have finally decided to bring my services to you! Although I have a calling within my blood for science, I have always (well, more like since junior high) had a desire to actively read and write. I have always been an imaginative person, who had had many stories within my heart, if not on paper, since my early years.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
While knowing that everybody makes mistakes, I know I do all the time, I have to say that I am generally good at finding double, or repeated phrases, double or repeating phrases (see what I did there). That usually takes away from the reading experience, and I also know the difference between those repeated phrases and the double words such as "that that" or "had had" within a story. "It was such that that without it, the story had had no purpose to use double words."
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I would have to say that my biggest weakness is my spelling. I have had problems with spelling ever since I started to learn how to write. This was not due to some form of in ability on mine or my teacher's parts, just the simple fact that the school system felt that it would be better to allow me to articulate properly than to insure that I could write my wishes to to a person who would need them, or my poor teachers who had to read my assignments, but I can assure you though, that my spelling has been improving by leaps and bounds, and not just because of modern spell checks. We found out during my freshman year of high school that my spelling had improved to the point in which my English teacher was unable to tell that I had ever had a problem. I attribute this miraculous change to my love of reading that only began after I found the lovely series of Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. Ever since the moment I opened Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001, I have not stopped reading. Repeatedly seeing the correct spellings of words, and starting to write my own stories have helped me in this regard, but that does not mean that I have perfected my spelling to perfection. But I assure you that while spelling is not my strong point, I will use your stories to help not just you make a wonderful story, but I will also take the opportunity to try to better my weakness.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I seem to really enjoy stories that have a good balance between action, romance, and just good in depth character development. I also enjoy stories that have some fluff. I have read a wide variety of stories. From sweet and short, to stories where the authors make the characters their own. I have enjoyed continuation stories and also completely alternative reality stories.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
The main type of stories that I find not to be my "cup of tea" are pretty much anything that has graphic rape sequences, and too much slang or text abbreviations. A story should have a fine line between proper dictation and just enough romance that is between willing and consensual, or if there has to be rape, it is done in such a way that the reader knows what is happening, but is not horrified beyond belief. When the story is regarding a Dom situation, I know that there will be some interesting situations that will arise, but I am perfectly comfortable with reading situations of that nature.
