Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm an avid reader and typically love to read other people's works. I like to latch onto ideas and certain topics for quite some time trying to study and learn from them (kind of like a leach I suppose). I probably won't take on every One-Shot I'm handed, the same going for rather long stories. I will most likely first make a point of the fact that it is either far too long or far too short, which matters greatly for a majority of readers similar to myself. I must say this: I'll be using "Writing Magic: Creating Stories That Fly" as a reference to some, if not all, of the stories I receive (It's a great non-fiction about writing by Gail Carson Levine). I think I'll be taking on about three at a time, seems like a fair maximum for me to start out my betaing with, so I may become changed someday.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I love to read and write in all forms of Person (First, Second, Third) but I constantly argue with myself about which I should apply to certain stories of mine. I have learned that I typically have to re-read chapters/stories to make sure that I catch most all of the spelling errors, but we're only human (at least most of the time...). I tend to find the humor in almost anything (yes, even in the death and/or murder of a character of any sort, unless they were a necessity) so even if that's not what your story was trying to go for (like a very seriously toned story) don't feel like you need to take it out, because that's just the way I tend to see things.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not the most privileged when it comes to spotting and correcting grammar. I'm probably going to just leave that one without much explaining, because I don't think there really is any explanation for this. If you have a character that I fall in love with I could possibly become blinded to the rest of the characters, or, on a less likely note, become blinded to parts of the plot not involving that character. With that said, please don't hate me if I have to drop your story, although I would finish what you asked me to, if that sort of "character-bonding" happens to me, and unfortunately it can happen often...
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I really love action, adventure, mystery, fantasy and supernatural story genres. They grab my attention, which is one thing I'll be looking for in the story, and their simply a type of story that keeps me interested. The one thing I can say for these kinds of stories is the more characters the merrier!
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't particularly like romance or si-fi stories. Romance is typically filled with all of that mushy, gushy stuff that makes grown man cry at night as they read it, which is why I don't read it... Kidding, but I don't read many romances unless they're with a pair of people I REALLY like, or they involve scandal and overall law-breaking. Si-fi is good at times but to me can become VERY confusing. Of course with the right form of writing and information the story could turn out great, but I just don't get out to watch movies like that or read books and stories like it (Those nerds can be blood-thirsty and scary...nah, I'm one of you guys!)
