|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader, I try to utilize a mix of positive and negative feedback. Please don't misinterpret this for thinking I'll go easy on you. I'll fine-tooth comb your chapter or story for spelling and grammatical errors as well as leave you with commentary and questions on topics of plot, diction, tone, characterization, readability, etc. so you will have the best story possible. I will read through your story/chapter two or three times for grammar and spelling, making comments as I go. I then will attempt to do any research on any questions I have, or anything genre specific to make sure it works with whatever you're going for. Then I read it through again for plot, logical fallacies, characterization. I will only take one editing project at a time. However, you are always feel welcome to drop me a message if you have a question about your plot, character development, wording in a scene, etc. I prefer to work off Google Drive since that's the only word processor I have on my computer. If you don't do Drive, I'm going to have to get your chapter in a PDF or something and won't be able to make live commentary or edits.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I will take time to comb through your chapter for grammatical and spelling errors and work to make sure your dialogue lives and breathes. I enjoy focusing diction and tone. I work hard to give you detailed feedback and encourage a positive writer-beta relationship. I try to make this period a fun and worthwhile experience. I'm good with grammar and all that, as well as AUs.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Because of my process, and because I'm a student, I am very slow. It might take me up to three weeks to finish a chapter. If you want snappy, I'm afraid I'm not the beta for you. I also have a rather blatant and vulgar way of speaking at times, I try to censor myself depending on who I'm speaking with, but it might slip out. Also, sometimes I'll think of something to fix a few days after I give you your chapter and might storm your email/inbox with "OOH! And one more thing!"
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
If I think the author has a passion for the plot, characters, and/or the prose itself then typically I will gladly beta it. There's no use writing a story half-assed, but when an author puts xir all into it, you can feel it on the page, and those are the kind of stories that it's an honor to be part of. If you want a more specific answer. Stories that are character-driven are my favorites, especially if you're focusing on a minor character. I also love reading/writing/editing romance (and sex-driven plots). I'm fine with any number of questionable content - but what matters is how you frame it. eg I will beta a non-con story, but you better be damn sure it's framed in a negative light.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I will not beta when a piece looks like no effort has been put in whatsoever (no capitalizing names, not spaced out, no punctuation at all) or a piece that expects me to ghostwrite. I'll edit whatever you give me, you can bounce off as many ideas as you want from me - just don't make me co-author, because I won't.
