Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a fairly quick, thorough reader, that likes to opt for different words when possible. Hopefully, that should mean I'm familiar enough with writing conventions and word definitions to pick up any errors. I'm not fussy about what I have to read, but I work best if I can at least somewhat empathise with what's going on. I want to help improve your fanfics, but at the same time, there's not much I can do for sentences that are too vague, e.g. too many characters speaking at once without punctuation defining who says what.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling and punctuation, and a little bit of phrasing. I'm also fairly good at getting different, more powerful ways to say the same thing.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Well, nobody's mentioned it yet, but my sentence structuring feels a bit clunky to me. And I wouldn't say my vocabulary is quite as vast as those well-known fanfic writers. But I do try!
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Super Mario, Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures... I don't really mind about genre and series, to be honest! Though the more surreal sorts are even better again!
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
From a series I don't recognise if the story has too many terms that only the 'initiated' know about. If you're gonna mention a lot of moves, characters, items, places etc., then don't expect me to know what you mean and correct you. If it's something I don't watch like Star Trek but the concept is simple, e.g. a short Kirk x Spock, then I should get the hang of it. Something like an epic adventure with lots of continuity references, however, wouldn't be so easy. This doesn't mean I won't try, but don't blame me if I make a mistake/ overwrite a reference because it is not obviously so.
