|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Through the site's newly released official app (check it out, it's super cool!), I've finally taken an interest in beta reading after five-or-so years of reading and three or four years of writing. As an aspiring novelist, I love good books—I always have—especially those of the fantasy genre. Explaining my style would be difficult, for I don't completely understand the way my own mind works. But if you would like me to beta read your story, expect to receive feedback beyond plain compliments or unexplained criticism. We'll talk often.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have an excellent grasp of writing conventions. Simple grammatical errors don't escape me, and I can catch some of the more advanced ones as well. Word choice is something I can help with; picking words can be a difficulty, so I commonly look for alternatives in my own writing. I'm open minded and very open to discussion, so talking at length with me about a story or anything else is something I highly encourage.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Of course, I'm limited by my own vocabulary and comprehension. One of my biggest flaws is my tendency to skim, but I'm trying to avoid that temptation.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Personal experiences help create the basis of a great story, so I love to hear about them and how you decide to incorporate them into your story. Short stories are always welcome, but lengthier stories are a treat to me. I love to lose myself in an intricate plot.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I dislike stories with a heavy OC focus. Very rarely do I read stories with OC in the main character listing, and even in my own writing OCs assume supplemental roles. The utmost thing that turns me away is the usage of writing for self-gratification in the way of romantically or sexually shipping a character and a self-insert. This is not bad per se, but I tend to avoid stories that I feel were written purely for shipping and sex.
