Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I like to work with writers who are open-minded and ambitious. As a beta reader, I’m there to edit for grammar and characterization and what-not, but I’m also interested in the creation process. If you haven’t started your story yet, but you do have basic plot ideas, I’m good at helping you work through the process of turning those loosely-connected ideas into a /br /br /

I only edit for fandoms I am familiar with. Before I start editing, I generally like to know what pairings you plan to include and the general direction of the plot. If you are trying to say something with your story, (thematically or otherwise, ex, ‘it’s a story about coming home,’ or ‘I just really want other people to see how much potential X has.’) I wouldn’t mind knowing about it in advance, just because that can help tie the entire story together. Also, please let me know if there are any areas you specifically want me to focus /br /br /

My turnaround rate is going to be 1-2 days per 1000 words. I play several sports, am in band, work, and have a demanding course load, so calculate it based off the upper end. It may take even longer if I’m editing several stories at /br /br /

Lastly, every work I edit comes back with about the same amount of red pen. I’ve beta’ed truly fantastic stories before and that red pen was to help it get to the next level, and I’ve beta’ed stories where the red pen was almost all for grammar and punctuation.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have spellcheck and I'm pretty good with spelling and grammar. I'm comfortable writing in American or British spelling- Just let me know which one. I have no problem with editing for dark themes, but I won't hesitate to tell you if I think it's not tastefully done. I think I'm good at writing vivid descriptions of sensations and places without doing blatant scenery porn. Most importantly, I understand people- what makes them tick, how they live, how people react to different situations.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sometimes I need to remind myself that a romance doesn't always have to be a tragedy or a comedy; sometimes a romance is just a romance. I'm pretty busy, so I don't waste time arguing if we disagree on something. I'm bad at writing happy people and I'm bad at writing people who never brighten up. Also, I'm no good at writing technobabble or complicated fight scenes. I'm more of a 'hit it until it works' kind of girl.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'm a sucker for a good tragedy or a fast-paced mystery. I like stories that have a wide variety of characters with a wide variety of opinions. I've only listed my favorite fandoms below. If it has a really interesting premise, you'll have me eating out of the palm of your hand. I also prefer to beta for slightly longer stories, meaning chaptered stories that are 10 000 words or longer. Right now my wishlist is a clever mystery with at least one good plot twist and pretty much any adaptation of Shakespeare. Also, any clever adaptations of contemporary fairy tales, stories where characters haven't completely figured out their sexuality by the end, and anything Arthurian that is derived partly from the source /br /br /

Pairings: Merlin/Arthur, Merlin/Morgana, Merlin/Gwaine, pretty much Anyone/Leon. For Harry Potter, James/Lily, Sirius/Remus, and most other pairings except anything involving Snape is fine by me.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't edit for Mpreg or cutting fics. Crossovers, excluding Merlin/Harry Potter are also not my area. I won't reject overly angsty fics, but I will encourage you to add moments of lightness to break it up. However, if I don't think I can help you with your particular story, I'll tell you right away. I'll edit (almost) any pairing. When it comes to romance, I can be a bit picky. Think more 'Carry On' than 'Divergent.' Also, stories that are dark for the sake of being dark or 'gritty and tough' without any focus on why those characters keep going.
