Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi! I'm Morgan. While I'm a fairly new beta-reader, I've been writing stories and editing them since before I was in /

br /

While you're welcome to apply for a fandom that I don't have listed, it's most likely that I'll turn your story down, since I prefer sticking to fandoms that I'm familiar /

br /

If you want me as a beta, please don't demand that I send it back to you within one night. (Currently, I have a friend in my grade who's an exchange student, who seems to have come to the conclusion that I can drop everything that I'm doing, correct and sometimes rewrite her papers, and send them back to her the night before they're due.) I appreciate having at least some time before being expected to get back, in case life tends to be troublesome, as life often /

br /

I tend to work extremely fast, unless something comes up, but I'm also a very thorough reader, going through multiple times simply for the sake of /

br /

If I become your beta, I'd be willing to give you my Skype username for story-related purposes. However, I'll only use the chat option, seeing as I normally look and sound like an unwashed bear, and can be found sitting in complete darkness or /

Feel free to message me if you want to.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
- Grammar, spelling, and/or format. I make sure all of my own stories have no errors – both the ones that Word detects and that I catch – before I ever upload /

br /

- Dialogue, especially when it’s snarky /

br /

- Replying extremely fast. Whenever I have caffeine and lack of sleep – which is most days right now – I work as fast as is humanly /

br /

- Replying on schedule. I’m a schedule-oriented person at heart, and, unless something hugely important has occurred, I do anything to uphold that. If, for some reason, I can't reply on schedule, I'll at least let you know about /

br /

- Researching what happens in the universe around the time of a story. If there are ever any discrepancies between your story and the canon, I’ll definitely let you /

br /

- Plotting storylines.

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
- Writing/editing romance, seeing as I’m fairly – okay, extremely – inexperienced with it. I’ll do my /

br /

- Time. I’m not very good with figuring out when exactly an event is supposed to happen, especially if multiple things are happening at once. If you specifically want me as a beta, I find that creating simple timelines helps /

br /

- Tenses. I might not notice if you switch between past and present /

br /

- Titles. If, for whatever reason, you need help coming up with story and/or chapter titles, I’m probably not your girl for that. For example, if I didn’t name my chapters after song titles, I’d have named one chapter “Evil Rabid Ferrets Aren’t Effective Motivators”. When in doubt, I go with the snark.

- This is more of a correspondence thing than a writer thing, but it's a weakness nonetheless, so I'm listing it here. I probably have at least some sort of social anxiety, which sometimes can cause me to delay replying to messages, mostly because I'm unsure of what I'd say would be the right thing to say.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
- Stories that contain at least a small amount of humor and/or /

br /

- Longer stories, as opposed to simple one-shots, although I’m not opposed to being the beta for them by any /

br /

- Stories with fairly consistent updates, and not eight months between one update, and two weeks between the /

br /

- If a story contains an OC, or multiple OCs, I’d prefer it if they were realistic. Realism is one of my specialties, especially as an /

br /

- Ones that, for lack of a better word, are ‘plotty’, in comparison to ones where I’d have to look to find an actual plot.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
- Gratuitous sex or violence scenes that contain a huge amount of descriptive detail. Basically, if it can’t be published in a YA book – and YA books contain a huge range – I’m probably not the best person to beta for your /

br /

- Stories that have a truly excessive amount of formatting, grammar, and/or spelling errors. I’m not inclined to beta for people who don’t grasp the concept of paragraphs or spell /

br /

- Stories where the leads fall head-over-heels for each other at first sight. I tend to be a realist, so I prefer slow-moving /

br /

- Ones with the death of a major /

br /

- Extremely perfect OCs of any nature. Or, as they're commonly known as, Mary Sues.
