Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
TESTIMONIAL: [From writer KeepItM, in their own words:] "Sometime during November 2015, Micah Debrink received the first few documents of "The Forest's Melody" from me. After 9 months of combined efforts and hard work, we emerged with a completed story. A tragical ~ 30000 word Pokemon fanfictional story. The first thing I'd like to say is that it takes a lot of effort to finish something that you've started. I am very proud of Micah because he was able to stay focused on this project for so long. Not many people in this world can do that, and keep in mind that all of this was volunteered work. Throughout this 9 month effort, Micah was responsible for pointing out plot, character and grammar errors. All I have to say to that is, he did a dam [sic] good job of it. An eye of a hawk! He would usually return the "beta read" document back to me with his comments in brackets; outlining the errors that I'll later fix. The only two challenges when working with Micah was the time zone difference and the delay of receiving the "betaed" piece of writing back. I've had a couple of instances where I would usually have to wait a week, two or more before receiving the document back. Some cases, it delayed the progress of the story. Then again, people aren't always free all the time. In conclusion, working with Micah was definitely interesting and an exciting experience. Maybe in the future, I might request his assistance again." (END)br /br /

TESTIMONIAL: [From writer Rekad in his own words. Rekad is from Poland; English is a second language for him.] Mar 26, 2017, was a day when I send a message to Micah Debrink containing my request. The answer came quite fast (Mar 27) considering different time zone between me and Micah Debrink, and this was a typical time of response, one day. In the same day, he received an access to Antimatter, fan fiction in the pokemon universe of a pokemon point of view, adventure/romance, rated T. In the first day of beta-reading Micah Debrink surprised me how much time he was spending with it, two times a day he was putting his suggestion in the text. The Later tempo slowed down but still, it was faster than I was expecting. Correcting grammar was the main thing for which I was looking for beta-reader and I was very satisfied with Micah help, he not only corrected hundreds of my mistakes in grammar, punctuation but also improved vocabulary and few explained things which I wasn't aware of. I need to mention that he stayed culture and patient all this time no matter how many mistakes I made, sometimes changing whole sentence structure, which is something laudable. Helpful were his comments/reactions put in the text showing how different reader can see the same things than me, as an author. It also helped me in character creation, I don't know if this Micah made it especially to move my attention to things which I missed, but that only slightly affected character creation, I guess he just liked that how they were. However, It was very helpful during writing part of romance since I didn't really know what I was doing.I think that the hardest for both of us was the first and second chapter where the story was taking its form. Hey everyone! I'm Micah Debrink. I enjoy works of literature that go beyond the surface of a topic, that allows readers room for interpretation and judgment, however, I am open to a variety of fan fiction works, including poetry. I like to use the motto "show, don't tell" in my writing, i.e. not tell the story outright, but use statements that allow readers to piece the whole story together, not "insulting the reader's intelligence". I am very open-minded and cultured, and I enjoy things that go against the grain, that see the opposite side of things, or look at an issue with a critical eye. I would say I am bit philosophical/radical visionary at times, but this doesn't mean I'll be stoical over a simple joke or turn my nose up at a simple plot. I will work on improving plot, characters, descriptive language, and of course spelling/grammar in your submitted works. I will take control of the story as much or as little as you want, whether you want a simple proofread or a thorough plot lookover. If you would like me to look over your work, just send me a PM, then send the work via the DocX system. I can also work with Google Docs.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I make a big effort on making sure your grammar, formatting, and spelling is clear and fluid, and will not show unintended ambiguity to the reader. I am good at making metaphors/play on words/double meanings in my writing. As a general rule, I do not discriminate against stories with bad grammar/spelling/punctuation as long as I can read it. Story quality comes first for me.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My background exposure to varying fandoms is rather limited; however, I am willing to do some research on fandoms I am not familiar with. Though I put priority on scrutinizing works for mechanical errors, I can sometimes miss some very obvious technical errors looking too closely word-for-word. I tend to use awkward wording in my stories that is confusing for some.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I have written Pokemon and Angry Birds fics, but I am knowledgeable in any of the other fandoms listed below. Novels, epics, one-shots, poetry are things I enjoy to read and would enjoy to review.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I am open to fandoms I didn't list above, but I might not be able to provide much advice/literary critique on them due to a lack of background knowledge.
