Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello, I'm Ryan. I just recently graduated from high school, and I've been reading for years. I recently picked up writing, which I'm beginning to enjoy as a hobby. There was a point where I was itching to edit, but I didn't even want to write. But, I ended up writing anyway. I like to think of myself as more of a formal writer and casual reader if that makes sense. I try to somewhat technical when I write, but I'm honestly willing to read anything, to a point. I don't really expect much, just commitment and a drive to improve as a writer. After all, that's what we're here for.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I feel as if I'm really good at correcting punctuation errors. I've always been keen on misspelled words or capitalization that seems out of place. My word choice is excellent as well. When there are points in a story where certain words would fit the criteria better, I'm easily able to point those out. I'm also really good at capturing the flow of a story. When I analyze critically, I'm able to tell where climax points occur, rising/falling action, and much more. Tempo is important in a story, after all. I'm decent at romance too.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sometimes, my sentence structure just sucks to a point of confusion. Exhibit One: I might add a lot of really unnecessary words that could quite possibly exhaust a complete sentence. I also like to get caught in a story if I'm really enjoying it, and that could possibly inhibit my ability to properly act as a beta reader.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I like to read about things I know about, not necessarily things I don't. To me, it's more engaging to know the main plot of a story and read based off of that versus reading about a story I hardly know about. However, if need be, I'm not necessarily opposed to it. I've watched a lot of anime, and I've read a lot of books. There's a few childhood TV stories mixed in there as well. I'm definitely down to read violent stuff.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't really know. There's nothing I'm overly opposed to.
