|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am 30 years old, and I am extremely fond of both reading and writing, activities that I have been pursuing since I was six. I love languages, and I speak both Norwegian and English fluently. My writing skills in both languages have been said to be excellent. I have done some beta-reading before, and it has worked out very well, I think. Most importantly, I am very concerned with grammar and spelling, as well as vocabulary, all tools that come in handy when proof-reading a story. When I do beta-reading, I don't change your story, though I may make helpful suggestions along the way; I make sure the language is correct and if it is very unvaried, I may suggest ways to spice it up a little. I will also give you comments on your story content, such as plot, characterisation, continuity, etc. Know that I am always so-called "brutally honest" with my authors, but I'm not unpleasant. I tell you, honestly, what I think, and I also try to point out where your potential lies. My goal is to make your story/poetry/etc. the best it can possibly be.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
As mentioned, I am very good with grammar, spelling, punctuation - all the technical stuff. I also read and write a great deal myself (also, as mentioned), which gives me a pretty good knowledge of the English language, as well as Norwegian, if anyone is looking for a Norwegian beta-reader. I am also very committed to the things I set out to do. As mentioned above, I also give you helpful comments concerning your story content, and I've been told by my authors that these comments tend to come in handy.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sometimes I may find myself swamped with other things to do, so it could, from time to time, take me a little extra time to proof-read the story, but I do try my best.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
My major fanfiction love has always been and will always be Harry Potter (I'll beta almost anything HP, except Harry/Hermione fics and fics involving ships with Voldemort, because those just freak me out. Evil!Harry, damaged!Harry and Harry/Draco are my faves, personally, but I can get into lots of other stuff as well). Generally, I'm a sucker for really good, character-driven stories. I am also very willing to beta-read for fanfics based on Dorian Gray (especially the Basil/Dorian-variety - no Emily Wotton! A curse on her!) and Supernatural (though absolutely NO so-called "Wincest". Call it what you like, it's still incest, and that also, invariably, freaks me out. Also, fanfics based on early seasons are preferred, as I'm not a huge fan of anything after season 5). Star Trek (preferably TOS), is an absolute possibility, as well as Star Wars. In the Star Trek universe, I prefer the Kirk/Spock variety, but I am willing to beta most things (except Spock/Uhura). I don't have any specific preferences as regards SW stories. Also, GIVE ME YURI ON ICE, guys. GIVE IT TO ME. I've also recently added Hollyoaks to my beta list, but I would prefer to beta stories involving either Stendan or Will Savage. And JP. JP is fine. Anyway, just ask me, and if it turns out that I don't know anything about the basis for the story you're writing, I may suggest you choose another beta-reader. Stories from books or TV-series are your best bet with me.
Now, I would like to take official issue with all the beta-readers out there who, at the end of their profile go, "I don't have anything against homosexuals, but ..." Listen, people. If you have to start a sentence like that, you probably have a little bit of a problem.
GIVE ME ALL YOUR GAY. I have nothing against the LGBTQIA community, which is why I'm perfectly comfortable reading and writing about it. :P
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
No manga or comic-book stuff. I have absolutely no knowledge of that. Also, I'd prefer not to beta stories with very gory sex-scenes. This just doesn't appeal to me.
