|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Greetings and salutations! I look forward to reading all sorts of work from different authors.
I'm going to elaborate more upon particulars in the next few sections, but my rules and expectations for betareading are very simple:
1. I will read each work thrown at me fairly, with a few exceptions (see below).
2. I will not badmouth any work or author, so I expect the same courtesy from anyone who asks me to read.
3. I will read everything, but I ask that authors respect the fact that the length of time it takes me to read varies greatly.
If I think of anything else, I will post it. In the meantime, feel free to read any of my works, as well as the works and authors on my favorites page. All of the stories I have favorited serve as excellent examples of different types of writing.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
While I do read for substance, the finest aspect of my writing is my ability to spell and check grammar well. I am also extremely tolerant of the content of the work of others, which is a bigger deal than you'd think, because although intolerance toward particular religions, races, creeds, etc. is often covered in various works, courtesy is often ignored when writing comments. I am fair, and if someone disagrees I do hear them out and take concerns into account when editing.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As previously mentioned, I focus on the mechanics of writing more than I focus on the actual content of a story. However, I have been working to overcome this. A more recent problem is not with my writing, but with my betareading. I tend to take quite a bit of time with my reading, in order to look over every detail. I'm sorry if this poses a problem for anyone.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
It's not what I would prefer to betaread, because I will read everything that anyone throws, or even gently tosses, my way, with equal care. As you will read, it's more of what I would prefer not to betaread. As a general rule, ratings do not bother me, or affect my beta-ing, except in certain cases (see below), and it takes a lot of work for something to affect me. I do prefer drama and humor, as well as general fiction.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
As fun as they are to read and comment upon, I would prefer not to betaread anything rated M for any reason other than violence of a non-sexual nature, or coarse language. Sorry, it's just quite awkward for me to comment coherently on something so intimate. If a work is rated M for coarse language and/or non-sexual violence, then, by all means, bring it on! Also, poetry and mystery are weaknesses; I am a decent writer, but a poor editor for those genre, so save both of us the heartbreak and send those types of works elsewhere.
