Oh, man! I finished reading the Elements of Oppositions fic a couple of weeks ago (eager for an update, but good things are worth waiting for!), and now I've found this. Knowing what happens after Discord disappears is pretty crushing to think about.

But with that aside, Fluttershy's crush on Discord is really cute. It's so innocent. When their faces are close together, Discord pulls away so abruptly that I suspect he was resisting a little temptation there too.

And this is a little off topic but I am so glad that such a chaotic character was introduced to series like Star Trek and now MLP. I think he's the most interesting character and Discord/Q-centric episodes are just the best, in my opinion!

Discord would use far less contractions in his speech.

Oh. My. Gosh. This was... Awesome! It was like an emotional roller coaster! I was intrigued, laughing, overwhelmed with adorableness, and stunned! This is truly a work of art!

The part where Discord explains why he has to create chaos and how agonizingly bored he gets makes a ton of sense! This is really close to how I interpret Discord too! Neat work!

Oh Fluttershy is too cute in this... I need this Elements of Opposition ASAP hopefully it's posted already as I am catching up. I love this universe so very, very dearly. It's awesome. It's also now my head-canon, basically.

I love the way you picked apart Discord's motivations in an interesting and very believable way.

Actually, neurotic beliefs, thoughts, emotions and values EVAPORATE *instantly* in response to logic so long as two conditions are met:

* the person is analytic (their brain breathes logic) otherwise it takes 10-100 times longer, from seconds to hours
* the neurosis is addressed directly and *perfectly on target*

the exactness and precision required can't be overemphasized. For a person capable of logic, an argument or COM (Convincing Objective Metric) will either work instantly or it won't work at all. If it almost seems to work or partially works then that's just as good as it not working at all so back to square one.

For people whose brains don't breathe logic, it becomes a game of breaking associations. I'm not exactly sure how that works since I'm analytic. Logic and COMs seem to work on them but orders of magnitude slower, but I believe the mechanism for their working is totally different.

Note that an argument such as "your friends won't let you get hurt" is total fucking bullshit unless it's believed as a CERTAINTY. If it's not believed thus then you're dealing with the neurotic belief that "maybe your friends WILL let you get hurt" in which case you have to deal with THAT. Measure EXACTLY your friend's willingness to let you get hurt by determining WHEN they WILL. Then verify those conditions against current reality to see if they apply.

See, the craptastic argument A which fools try to use to eliminate a neurosis B frequently turns out to be weak because their negations (not A) are neuroses. You can't calibrate the value of a belief with another belief that is itself uncalibrated. You can't justify a truth with a lie, no matter how much you wish the lie were true.

This story was so well put, the diction was very mature, and the character development exceeded the norm shown in other fanfics. You are an AMAZING writer!
