Oh I love that hymn, and you used it so effectively. I cried the whole time I read it except for the beginning when I went why rain why and laughed at the conversation on the porch. I cannot wait until the next chapter.

wow, above and beyond, jenn -you made me give a hoot about dora! suddenly i want to read a dora story, how did you do that?
this was really beautiful, what i loved most was how green gables it felt, there was a real sense of place, and when i read your story i missed green gables all over again. i always felt like it wasn't the same without anne in it, but i really felt like life and humour still lived there even if anne didn't, and it made me glad.
gilbert dancing with dora had to be the highlight of the story -it was so delicate and tender, i loved how anne loved him more as she watched him. a
nd marilla watching them out the window was so moving. i am glad you gave her that little private glance into anne and gil's relationship.
and their dance was such a quiet intimate moment, i think it really works that he waited to propose; it feels like they have reclaimed their best friendship back from the buzz of passion and are learning how to balance the two in this new way -and this last dance really shows it. loveliness :o)

This conversation... It was just so perfect. The intensity, Gilbert's pain, Anne's confusion. It was palpable. And the kiss... Just wow. You are a wonderful writer, and the song say something truly fits these characters and their situation.
And now... What will Anne say?

I always wondered why Gilbert didn't ever try to tell Anne that he wasn't in love with Christine . I suppose he thought it wouldn't make a difference, if she was in love with Roy. I always thought he should man up and confess...

I look forward to reading more of this story, it's so wonderful! Mrs. Lynde was straight on the money and Gilbert and the girls were so sweet. Dancing in the garden under the moonlight, how romantic! Anne and Gil are one of my all time favorite OTPs. I think you really captured Marilla's feelings, she is a personal favorite of mine. Please do continue with this story, it's marvelous! :)

firstly i was laughing like an idiot at the gog and magog scene, and then just like that i was oh oh are they going to kiss? and then laughing out loud again when gilbert blythe lost his cool "what?" -heh heh.
then pow, enter the gorgeously melancholy roy! too brilliant, jenn. and oh no this was not going to be an 'anne tries to hide them from each other' scene from a rom-com, but a full on embarrassing, chest beating, awkward confrontation, and i am so glad i was there to see it! perfection!
'i guess you don't love her as much as you thought' -take that gardner!
bringing back the box of mementos was such a roy gesture, and anne's response was so anne -poor darling, that was a real piece of manipulation, it must have horrified her. and gil 'merely shrugged' -gil was so gil, i was cheering!
"that is not love" take that royal!
and he is going to propose in avonlea! yes yes, all my re-imagined dreams come true!

Aww Gil is gun shy? Can't say that I blame him, really. I just hope he doesn't come down with the fever upon return to PEI. That would be awful! But maybe Anne would have the right to be with him then. And they still could end up at Hester Grey's... loving the possibilities!

Roy arriving at the door was a shock, I did not expect that. I like what you did with this chapter and the fact that Gil hasn't proposed yet is bothering me as much as it's bothering Anne. Good job!
