![]() ![]() ![]() The dance scene at the end, along with Marilla and Mrs. Lunde's commentary, left me crying with joy. Oh, how lovely! |
![]() ![]() ![]() I just finished this story (started it two days ago) and absolutely loved it! As much as I loved the original telling of Anne of the Island last few chapters, your story was everything and more. Loved how you portrayed the love story between Anne and Gilbert and the characterisation of the characters just like L.M Montgomery. My favourites have to be the rain scene, Gilbert's speech and the kiss (and also Anne's POV), the whole chapters of "Philippa Speaks" & "On Love and Laced Fingers", the dance between Anne and Gilbert in the garden and of course the proposal in the Avonlea school house. Well done, I loved this story very much. Nicole. [rightfromthebegining] x. |
![]() ![]() ![]() GAH! So cute. Kudos to Raindropcatcher for that connection, indeed! And kudos to you... I think this will be your 100th review on this story? -waves pompoms- The parallel between the past and present (and the mention of 11-year-old Anne's horror at what had transpired, haha), and the parallel of "say something" were fun. So nicely done. I loved the conversation between Marilla and Anne too. Ah, wonderful Marilla... I loved this story as a whole too, obviously ;) So thank you for sharing it with us. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Aw! Great job at showing Anne's personality... her anger over Gilbert and Christine, her heart leaping at the thought of Gil proposing only to have him ask something else (multiple times, haha), and her heightened feelings about something as simple as holding hands. That's so Anne. There were a lot of resonances of "Pride and Prejudice" that I noticed in this chapter and Ch. 5 about being blind, not seeing, etc., and now knowing herself. (Ouch to the conversation between Christine and Anne! But especially in such a situation, nothing can go perfectly!) I'm always a sucker for a P&P reference. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Poor unsuspecting Roy! I look forward to having his suffering over with so Anne and Gil can get on with their relationship and not have it feel dishonest anymore! What a right mess... though Gil does deserve to be smug... There were some points where character's dialogues and another character's actions were in the same line; I would suggest starting a new paragraph. But that's just my opinion/stylistic preference, and it isn't that important, because it's usually clear who is doing what! "Oh Phil, must you speak such sense?" was my favorite line. Again, spot-on dialogue between Phil and Anne. This was a very fun chapter. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Aww! I love Phil. And I love her dynamic with Anne. Good for Phil for giving her honest opinion at the right time (it might not have been welcomed before). And she is so right. I adored this conversation! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Finally getting around to reviewing this fab story! First off, your knowledge of the characters is evident, and I love even your side characters. Aunt Jamesina made me chuckle. In general I'm troubled when a guy kisses a girl and expects her to love him because of it, and tells her that she doesn't love the other guy... BUT I think you acquit yourself because Gil knows Anne so well. I am glad that you got to give both character's perspectives, and especially enjoyed Anne thinking through the kind of love that she has for Roy (and, vis a vis that, what kind of love she would have for/with Gil, who actually understands her). And at least he gives Anne a chance to pull away, a chance to tell her to leave him alone. So you balanced Gil's obvious passion with not having him become a forceful jerk. I thought you did a good job of showing realism - Anne going rarely speechless after the kiss, and Gil stammering and fumbling a little when he tries to say what he wants to. (In my opinion, real, heartfelt declarations of love rarely turn out like neat little sonnets, because there's too much emotion behind them! Along the lines of what Mr. Darcy said that a man who felt less could have talked more.) So, there's my two cents! Your writing is great and enjoyable, as almost 100 other reviews testify ;) |
![]() ![]() So romantic! I enjoyed the story. Thanks for writing! |
![]() ![]() Okay, let's just put it out there: I LOVE THIS STORY! |
![]() ![]() ![]() .God! Such a cute ending! I had to contain my squeals of excitement at the proposal. It was perfecttttt! So sweet that he ended up proposing on the very same spot she decided to hate him "for all eternity." I loved this story, and I think you portrayed everyone's characters perfectly. I really, really liked it 3 |
![]() ![]() I can t stop re reading this story while waiting for the updates of the sequel. It s sooo much better than the book. You finally give these two justice. Thank you sooo much! |

![]() ![]() ![]() Oh my god this is amazing :) It's SO adorable and you've nailed the characters and I feel like I'm reading another of the stories and it's just so cute I think I'm developing a cavity..! Sorry I can't articulate my feelings properly I'm so overwhelmed! |
![]() ![]() So I've just realized that I've been laying here for three hours finishing this fic. It was 10 when I started and now it's 1... in the morning. I wish I could say that I had any regrets about my decisions, but alas I cannot. This fic had me hanging on to every moment- a few of my favourites in particular being Gilbert's dance with the girls and his proposal to Anne; the part where Gilbert wiggled his eyebrows and winks at a distraught Anne had me in stitches. I did let out an audible "aww" at more than one part. Did I forget to mention that I'm not usually a fan of stories where Anne and Gilbert are already in love? Yours is my exception. I thought that the characterization was beautiful and the story felt so real that it could've been written by L.M. Montgomery herself. Thank you for contributing to this small fandom; it has been a treat to read your story. Now, please excuse me as I go hunt out the sequel. |
