Reviews for Ultimate Fairy: Volume I
Insane Dominator chapter 48 . 2/9/2022
Here’s to a new chapter of Ultimate Fairy! It’s been some time since this was updated, but I’m glad to see it getting another fine showcase for its readers! This chapter didn’t disappoint as, once again, there was a considerable level of thought put into its structure and every plot device used up to date. From the Entrapment incident, to Natsu being used as a guinea pig, to the return of his Atomic Fire Dragon Mode. There were also a plethora of revamped scenes that had your detailed spin on the matter, and you kept it all very convincing the whole way through.

From the get-go, we got to see Erza and Jellal’s confrontation meet its epic climax. You had the details very close to the canon, but made sure to keep the scene rolling with momentum weighed by the Ben10 changes such as the golems and Brain learning of the Entrapment Spell. Those notable additions were more than impactful to the scene since it was able to keep the reader’s attention. The pacing was good, and the dialogue and details were well balanced. Great job.

With the alliance, Ben returned to the scene as Blitzwolfer, along with Lyon and Natsu on his back. A unique choice for an alien via transport, but he’s pretty mobile with his running and jumping abilities. With his also keen sense of smell, he was a good alien for Ben to use to find the others.
With their reconvening just as Nirvana had rose up, they once again diverged, with Lyon and Sherry pulling away while Natsu and the other Fairy Tail members went ahead with scaling the massive legs of the huge walking domain. Nice little use of Spidermonkey as well for Ben as they were scaling, even though Natsu and Happy clearly weren’t paying attention and got him messed up in their half-brained antics again.

Once everyone manages to get their footing atop of Nirvana, there was Brain and Cobra as they engaged with Natsu and Ben respectively. The two parties, however, engaged in a small conversation that extorted information from the other. In Ben’s case, he learned that Hex was Brain’s former master, to which Ben admitted he was nothing compared to the leagues of other enemies he’s known. Meanwhile, Brain learned that Ben was the one that was able to escape from the Entrapment Spell, and that Natsu was a victim of the Nirvana’s influence.

Ben VS Cobra was done most amicably. This fight had a lot of impact with the way the fight was written. The alien choices were kept minimal and enabled the most of Wildmutt and his Ultimate Form. You did a wonderful job with the fight choreography and Wildmutt’s agility and strength when dealing with Cobra and Cubellios, up to where he fought as Ultimate Wildmutt. I really liked how you were able to have Ben use his head and realize Cobra’s ability to use ultrasonic hearing and use that against him. I found that move clever and how Ben extorted whatever he could without making a fool of himself like Natsu and Happy did in the canon. At the end of it all, he was able to defeat Cobra with usage of Echo Echo’s multiplication and sonic screeching to completely down him.
What Ben did after was something I really liked as well. The Omnitrix picking up on Cubellios’ DNA was a nice touch. This scene in particular made Ben rethink of what he’s done to his friends and realized that he needed to be a proper hero and not discriminate. So, when he freed Cubellios’ snake form and made her turn to Kinana, that was a very noble gesture that I am certain will be reflected upon in later chapters, especially by Cobra who was actually granted his wish thanks to the hero.

The scenario involving Midnight VS Richard wasn’t significantly changed, aside from the addition of Ichiya. But you were able to keep it fresh using your writing style and not something that can be overlooked. It was done well, with the proper dialogue included.

Lastly, the scene involving Natsu VS Brain was a different kind of surprise, but it was a good one nonetheless. The choreography was done very well, with much of it being original and very easy to envision. The fact that you had Natsu almost overthrown and brought back to darkness by Brain that one part was very good writing, and tested Natsu’s resolve. While it was in anime, the vision of Igneel was used here to revitalize Natsu’s resolve.
Not only that, but the execution of his Atomic Flame Dragon Mode was believable. It was brought back and gave him even more Magic Power to help him take down Brain, or so it was presumed.

So, overall, this chapter had great content buildup and a very accurate depiction of characters. Written very beautifully with a great cliffhanger and original battles that kept the story fresh!

Hope to see more very soon!

Still hilarious that Hex is Brain's teacher and he's not even one of Ben's bigger enemies like Vilgax, Aggregor, Malware, Kyber, Ghostfreak, The Highbreed, or Albedo.

Self-destruct Nirvana? Sounds drastic, I love it!

Sherry does not shut up about love.

Now Natsu can be carried by Ben without getting motion sickness.

I bet Natsu misses being Cannonbolt.

Happy does not like Wildmutt.

So Wildmutt is immune to poisons and viruses.

Ultimate Wildmutt rules!

Thanks Insane-Mane for the art.

Happy February!

Vanessa Masters chapter 47 . 1/20/2022
As Erza continued to run, she glanced down and ruminated further. Images of the young Jellal from her past made her heart cringe for some reason. Her head was warring against the two versions of Jellal that she knew: the evil one that hurt her tremendously, and the good one from all those years ago.

Erza narrowed her eyes in confusion. 'I wish I knew what I was supposed to be feeling right now.'

Her thoughts then shifted to the otherworldly hero. His cool, calm, and noble self. She had seen how brave and heroic he was for herself and also via his memories in his mind. His childish excitement around smoothies was adorable. The occasional quips he would make while fighting could get a little tiring, but she'd be lying if it didn't make her inwardly smile.

Titania knew in her heart how she felt about the shapeshifting hero. Their date was enough evidence to convince her. Yet conflicting feelings regarding the blue-haired boy from her past were resurfacing, and she wasn't sure what to think at the moment.

_

Kudos for all of this!

Very impressive.

And dang, erza torn a bit. She loves Ben, but now here's jellal

Oh, intense.

Geavatak takes care of evil natau, but pesky dust couldn't bust him out of nirvana thrall, but fortune smiles and lyon is alive.

Phew.

Here's hoping no evil Ben.

But these battle scenes, very well done.

Here we are again, with a new chapter to Ultimate Fairy. It’s been some time since this was updated, and I have to say that despite there being a sudden lackluster at the end of the chapter, it was still a surmisable read to get through. You did very well in making sure that while Lucy’s fight didn’t change too much, you made sure to shorthand it well. Not only that, but you went the extra mile when it came to Natsu’s emotional trauma and his ideologies against Ben, and how in the end, Ben realized that he was the one at fault here. You took the time to ensure that no matter, what, there was plenty of focus on Ben and Natsu’s case.

The chapter started off on the right food. It wasn’t a long scene, but you’ve had Erza endure a lot of psychological trauma against Jellal. It’s an interesting point to be made. Erza and Jellal was a thing in the canon, but at the same time, you mended Ben and her so well that the confliction is putting on a thin line. From how she admired Jellal, to ending up feeling resentful towards him, to how you were explaining the feelings she felt about what they went through. Overall, a fine showing with what was going through Erza’s mind at the moment.

Meanwhile, the group comprised of Gray, Happy, Lucy, Hibiki, Wendy, and Sherry was making progress towards the light. I feel sorry fir Hibiki being talked to badly throughout the chapter. In fact, the arc was giving him a hard time all around. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a twist in the end of all this where he tries to expose Ben in some way.
Nice callback to the Lyon scene from before, when Gray was trying to avoid the touchy subject of Ben’s life and origins.

It was ironic of Happy believing that Natsu wouldn’t be affected by Nirvana. If he saw what Natsu had done throughout the chapter, it wouldn’t sit well with anyone. Natsu was succumbing to Nirvana and aimed to hurt Ben, for treading on everything he stood for, and how he looked down on him. A lot of his pride was stamped out and he wanted retribution. You didn’t hold back when it came to Natsu’s emotions on the matter. You really highlighted his anger and grief because of Nirvana, and how Ben had to put up with the Revelation as such.

Their battle was written fairly well, with the aliens Ben used being good choices against Natsu. Using Goop was a neat start. He had a heat-resistant body, but even that wasn’t enough to stop Natsu in terms of power. So Ben got more versatile with Eye Guy. That was a unique choice, but all around a nice showing of said alien. But the big turnaround was how you had Ben use Gravattack and use gravity to make Natsu whirl around. Nice job in using his motion sickness against him!

It’s when Ben becomes Pesky Dust to pick at what bugged Natsu’s mind that he realized what the problem was. He was right in some ways of how NOBODY thought this through nor thought of a Plan B or C. It was very traumatic and Ben relived through all the emotions Natsu went through. You did a fine job showing his remorse in his actions, and how despite being a hero, he was a very bad friend.
But before anymore damage could be done, Natsu was able to break free when Lyon was found to be alive. A nice little callback to when Sherry snapped out of it when Lyon was revealed to still be alive when he stopped Racer.

The scene with Lucy’s battle against Angel was low-grade, just like you said. But in a way, it’s fine. Not too much had changed from the canon anyways, so it worked out. You didn’t have much of any alterations aside from the ending with the real Gray freezing Angel and Sherry using her dolls to halt Angel, allowing Lucy to deal the finishing blow. Again, this scene was more shorthanded, but with it so mended with canon, it didn’t affect too much of the outcome.

Finally, we have Erza confronting Jellal, who not only had blotched skin because of radiation, but also the Ethernano overload wiped his memory. The scene carried on in familiar with the canon, despite what happened in the beginning with conflicted feelings she felt earlier between Bena and Jellal.

So, overall, this chapter had a slightly lower quality in terms of writing consistency, but there was still plenty of depth to Ben and Natsu’s perspectives in their quarrel. You highlighted how much of an antagonist ben was in Natsu’s eyes, despite the latter being said foe. Lucy’s fight was kept to the point, but still well enough to tell the being subtle differences here and there.

Looking forward to seeing more soon!
