Reviews for Troll! Troll in the Dungeon |
---|
![]() ![]() ![]() I’d honestly thought I’d reviewed this story years ago. To start, ***** out of *****. There is so much here that rings true to canon: 1. Harry being interested in his new books and in studying hard. It’s in PH in more than one place. For him to conclude that he can reach his scholastic potential without Dursley interference is a good extrapolation. 2. Do you bash Ron? Yes and no. A. Throughout canon (only the books for me) one is struck at how few friends H&H have and that gaining friends often only comes as the result of bad things having happened — OotP is a prime example. B. The idea that Ron discourages H&H from finding friends/maybe even goes out of his way to hog Harry’s attention (Hermione often seems more a tagalong) is strongly suggested in canon and is more explicit in fan fiction. C. It is an undeniable fact that Ron reduces Hermione to tears in every single of the novels — CoS is the sole exception, but I think he very might have done so ‘off stage’. Truly for JKR to pair Ron and Hermione is condoning abusive relationships. D. By exaggerating his failings you point out his poor points, and that includes the manner in which you have him speak. 3. Here Filius and Minerva actually do their damn jobs. Faculty are feckless at best, dangerously destructive at worst in canon. Dumbledore is not exempt. Binding Harry’s magic is not an out of bound extrapolation. It goes hand in hand with canon’s evidence that Albus grooms Harry to sacrifice himself. As in so much of fanon, Dumbles is every bit a Dark Lord as Riddle. 4. Of course you give us explicit Harmony, for which this Harmonian cheers. The reviewer who wants you to put them into a brother/sister relationship is on something strong! 5. It’s great to see Neville bloom, four books early. H&N&H is a far better triad. To sum up, this story makes me smile every time I read it. Thanx! TGM |

![]() ![]() ![]() Enjoyed this little story. Thanks! |
![]() ![]() I can't... Ron can't speak English and Harry's a cringe little nerd, didn't get far enough to see what you did with Hermione, I'm betting something simpy though. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Oh nooo! Not calling professor flitwick a shrimp! How sad! I wish this had more chapters but honestly it was still a brilliant one shot! Thanks for sharing! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Really wish this was a full story |
![]() ![]() wow, hi, i totally agree with u. why jk rowling write a scene like this is still weird, it looks like she doesn't care Hermione's feeling, harry even doesn't show any attention for that when Ron say those terrible judgements... you did a good job |
![]() ![]() ![]() This is a fun little read. My first thought on Ron's speech was this is what a child of Hagrid and a house elf would sound like. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you for sharing this sweet story with us. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Loved it and seriously wish it was longer |
![]() ![]() ![]() great job!, you could have carried this on with that start! |
![]() ![]() ![]() well done! i'm of exactly the same opinion! |
![]() ![]() ![]() Is this going to continue on from here? Id like to see this domino effect continue actually. This seems much more believable for a batch of kids. Ron seems a little more off kilter then normal, but its still believable. Keep up the good work. As for tropes and stuff like that i don't really follow them all that much some things come naturally. Also one thing for you to possibly work with. Have you ever read some of the legends about the philosophers stone. I remember once reading that on top of extended life and makeing gold many other things were possible with it including creating life. And well the Weasleys happen to be abnormally prolific for a wizarding family, Who is to say Dumbledore did not help them out with the same stone in question. It would explain how most of them seem to be in his pocket. After all if you can create new life could to make it easier for something that can on its own like say a woman, i imagine the side effects would include higher levels of vitality. seven kids cooks and cleans and always full of energy molly seems a little over powered on a normal scale if you really think about it. That family has no house elf either so no one to mitigate the work. Just a thought do with it what you will. And keep up the good work. |
![]() ![]() You skipped Harry meeting Hermione in the library the night before, as he went there specifically to meet with her. The later interactions and thoughts after the troll incident would have happened previously. Not only that, Harry wouldn't be stupid enough to drag moRon along to cause havoc and be useless... unless he was planning on sacrificing the git to the troll to distract it. You could have had him push Ron into the troll's way and then rescued both Hermione and Ron, hat way he could command the git to stay away. Also, the teacher's reactions to Snape are un-canon-like and wouldn't have happened, even with the altered circumstances. Other than those picky points, it was a good read. |
![]() ![]() ![]() A most enjoyable story. I think it was well written. I liked the way you put the group together without making it seem forced. -LLGuigo- |
