I was expecting something wrong would happen that night and on her run home. I thought edward might be held up in traffic... Not make it to the chemist in time and then be late finding bella whom he'd fibd beaten up after Lauren spied them making out in his truck at lunch time. I did wonder though earlier when the news report came on if it was going to somehow link to Bella and edward. I wondered this because a you used a similar news report in the car in the last fanfic you wrote where edward, an ex military man, lived on the mountains and bella was on the run from witnessing a murder.
