| chrissy ford chapter 5 . 8/18/2018
Emperor Drakkon invented The Chantry, conveniently filled with expansionist teachings, as an excuse to conquer and convert neighboring kingdoms; particularly Nevarra and the Dales. Eventually it became clear to everyone that Orlais was expanding out of greed rather than faith, though most of Southern Thedas are still ardent Chantry worshipers who enthusiastically preach its expansionist ideals; even people Orlais conquered fully believe Orlais' borderline propaganda version of the war against the elven Dales.
Dalish elves in particular view the Exalted March of the Dales as this. From the Dalish perspective, Orlais used Chantry "missionaries" as a front to try to undermine their autonomy, and when the missionaries were kicked out, the fact that Orlais promptly sent in Chevaliers was just Orlais dropping the act. While the Inquisitor can discover in Inquisition that the elven attack on Red Crossing did happen, it was not a heathen attack against the faithful as the Chantry claim, but a tragic case of Poor Communication Kills. Orlais created the Chantry and its Chant of Light ostensibly to praise Andraste and the Maker for freeing them from Tevinter. Said Chant of Light is also filled with expansionist teachings they then used as an excuse to conquer, convert, and forcibly subjugate most of Southern Thedas (particularly the elven kingdom of the Dales) in the name of the Maker and prophetess that freed them. The Chantry was so successful at winning over the hearts and minds of the nations it forcibly conquered, that most of Southern Thedas are ardent proponents of Chantry worship and its expansionist teachings, despite the said Chantry being created by Emperor Drakkon to justify conquering them in the first place.

the maker is false. the chantry itself has served as a political tool for many centuries now. will not be the one to sully it. for it has been sullied already. both chantries have expulsed the canticle of shartan and pronounced it heretical. because it encouraged slaves to rebel. because orlais coveted the dales. let us. then. glance at our true selves the mirror. the exalted marches of the dales had nothing to do with the dales refusing to accept the maker's truth. truly. why has the chantry never marched on the avvar. then?they tend to put them missionaries heads on pikes far more often than the elves ever did. look at yourself in the mirror. you know the truth well enough. there have been no exalted marches on the avvar because no one wants the icy hells and watery graves they inhabit. that is all. the maker belief was created by the first the emperor of orlais. he use Religious belief a tool to wash brain of the people of Thedas.
The reason he did all this is because he wants to expand his empire. He was a greedy pig. orlais was the second most evil country after planned all this at the time of the second blight. People were too busy fighting darkspawn and Archdemon Zazikel. They're exploiting this situation. The worst lies ever in thedas.

A very nice look at Elilia's and Loghain's backgrounds.I wouldn't have thought Elilia was a tiefling though, and I'm sure Loghain and Chick will be a good influence on her.
| Melysande chapter 5 . 5/14/2014
Sad dreams for Loghain - realistic backstory and marriage. Sometimes I think he needs to believe Rowan is happy since that justifies his pushing her to marry Maric and his own unhappiness, which he thinks is all he deserves. Its a good thing he's quiet or he might be whiney. (Sorry that just popped into my head). Maker knows he's been brutal, made mistakes and done the demons work for Maric and Ferelden.
Great chapter revealing his and Elilia's backgrounds.
| The Scribbly Knave chapter 5 . 5/14/2014
The extended dream was utterly heartwrenching. Loghain really is a character I adore and want to hit over the head with a truncheon sometimes xxx

Wow! I super, really loved this story and can't wait for more to read!
I am really sorry for the loss of your father. I have been there and know it is hard but it does get better bit by bit. I find remembering mine and his outrageous sense of humor and story telling make me smile with nostalgia. I also hope and believe that I will see him again someday and it gives me a brighter outlook. Just take care of yourself as best as you can, let yourself grieve. If it all seems overwhelming a good cry or screaming match into my pillow was very therapeutic. My prayers and best wishes go with you.
Thank you for sharing your gift with us!

You write Loghain so well, I'm really enjoying what you've written so far.
| Tirion I chapter 4 . 3/19/2014
I wonder if Loghain will meet his equals among humans. He stands out from these villagers thanks to being a huge Fereldan, as well as having decades of military experience, and freaky Warden powers... but this is a high-magic setting, I expect there are similar individuals around somewhere.
| Melysande chapter 4 . 3/19/2014
Not sure if lovely chapter quite fits, but in a lot of ways it is. Day in the life of Loghain with new friends and benign adventures. Perhaps he could get used to this?
| Mike3207 chapter 4 . 3/19/2014
I didn't know they had Scouts in Ferelden.
Good fights-the last one between Loghain and the local champion was funds will help as well.
Okeer seems like he's from our world. I wonder if there are a lot of people crossing planes.
| The Scribbly Knave chapter 4 . 3/19/2014
I enjoyed that chapter, its almost like Loghain is needed in the world, it's grounding for him... So now I wonder who the Warden was xxx
| Tirion I chapter 3 . 3/10/2014
Bastard Kobolds. No wonder the priest would rather pay for someone to go get that flower from the woods than go himself.
| Mike3207 chapter 3 . 3/10/2014
There was an age undreamed of, where shining kingdoms were across the land. Unto this age was born Loghain the Barbarian. Dun da dun da dun da dun.
Loghain will give Conan a run for his money.
| The Scribbly Knave chapter 3 . 3/10/2014
Loghain, the best barbarian out there!
I enjoyed the chapter quite a bit, and kobolds! It's all D&D and I love it so much! xxx
| Melysande chapter 2 . 3/3/2014
A fascinating world you've created for Loghain and this elven Eliliia. With spiders! And a chatty bariaur. Looking forward to the next post.
