I'm not familiar with this sort of AU. It's definitely an interesting one. Gives way to lots and lots of heart metaphors.

Gai tries so hard and gives all he's got for the sake of a Kakashi that's so cold and pushes people away. And they're made of different things even down to their hearts. But I like that Gai never gives up, even though he's so susceptible to pain, especially from Kakashi's words. My heart breaks for Gai. But they'll grow up and get through these things together, hopefully, if it follows the same path as canon did.

I wonder who that jonin was. A yamanaka, maybe? Poor Gai and his faceblindness.

OMG, if you ever continued this it would be the best thing ever. I love metaphorical AU's and yours takes the task and the idea to a profoundly beautiful level of intricate detail and thought. Of course Gai's heart would be more real since he's a real person. The fact that you allowed for it to bleed makes the situation real and, pardon-sorry-not-sorry, heartbreaking.

This was so interesting! Normally, I'm the kind of person who runs screaming from AUs, but this verse is so different from all the highschool etc.-stuff people usually write. It pulled me right in! I would be overjoyed if you decided to continue this story. Again, thanks for sharing this!

Gosh I love this. I didn't know what to expect going in, but the AU works so very well. I'm curious about what inspired it, because at first I just thought maybe it was based on some other source, but even if it is, you flesh it out so well for the characters here. You write Gai so well, and he's not an easy one to capture. It's awesome to get to see him in such a prominent role in fics-even in fics he stars in, he often rarely gets a lot of pov time. I like both the concept and execution of the plot/metaphor/etc a lot and agree with Namae-desu: would love you to continue this, especially in light of the reason chapters, please.

It would be absolutely beautiful if you would continue this story. (Especially in the light of the most recent Naruto-chapter, some well-written Kakashi/Gai-interaction would be tremendously appreciated). This AU is rather striking, and I like the hearts and the things they seem to represent. It is fascinating, and I am very curious; I hope Gai's heart will grow as strong as his resolve. His Youth has only just begun... And for Kakashi, he'd better be grateful Gai is such a stalke- I mean, determined friend, in the long-run. Also, it is peculiar both Kakashi's and Sakumo's hearts were black when their Chakra is white - I definitely like it.

(I did find one typo you might want to get rid of though, because starting a sentence with a (minor) mistake might put off some people, which would be an absolute shame seeing this is a story with a very intriguing plot! I believe 'see's' should be 'sees').

Seems fitting that the hearts of father and son would match. There's a sense of legacy not only from Sakumo to Kakashi, but from their earlier ancestors as well.
