I love the quirky sort of chemistry you give Gai, Genma, and Ebisu! All their personalities shine through so well in this, and their misadventures are so fitting, I could definitely see them having to stay quiet about the exact cause of Dai's death so they don't stir a panic in the village. The way Gai handled mourning his father was spot on, too. The short scenes with Kakashi and Gai were great, and all the backstory you added for the characters was really fun to read. My favorite thing is how capable and strong you write Gai as. The way he was ready at a moment's notice on that first night against the ANBU was so wonderful to read.

Oh I love how you write them all. I can see their future selfs, but they are all still children and you write them wonderfully.

Should you ever come back to this, I would be eternally grateful.

I really, really like the way Team Disaster (headcanoning that name now, thanks!) interacts with each other, from Genma's whole attitude to Ebisu's weakness to puns, a weakness I share myself. The descriptions of Genma and Gai reacting to Ebisu laughing were also hilarious and spot-on.

I can't remember if it's canon or not, but I really like the idea of Genma having siblings. :)

Your explanation for the whole Seven Swordsmen situation makes sense to me. The fallout for poor Team Disaster hasn't been pretty, has it?

HOW, exactly, do you find an ANBU safe house while chasing a cat? That sounds almost worth a oneshot in and of itself. Incidentally, was this cat an ancestor of Tora? XD

I like the little detail of Genma throwing paper airplanes at Gai. At least the mystery of what happened to their original teacher is solved (although they don't know that yet). Every mission they've had since then has gone horribly wrong in some fashion, with them still oblivious, right?

Their takedown of that ANBU was priceless. I started snickering when Gai hit him with the box of food, and then full-out laughed when Genma spat a chopstick at him. Just... hilarious. XD The best part is that I can imagine all three of them doing precisely that with no problem.

So, what happened to their absent teacher, or will that be explained?

I really like this, theres not very many fics that focus on guy as a genin with his team, though i would think that his dad would have killed more than just one of the seven deadly swordsmen he did ope the eighth gate after all
