this is really really bad

Re-reading this story, and immediately knowing why! This chapter is amazing!

This is a sleeper fic. I went into this, read chapter 1, and I knew EXACTLY where this fic was going. I ASSUMED. And I was sooooo wrong. This is SO quietly humorous and deeply touching. The loyaltyLove was just soooo sweet. I LOVE how they love Kirk and his care for every single crew member. Your characterizations! So fucking good. Sulu ready to throw hands against Herdorf, bruv is a pilot who uses a sword, he's not afraid to scrap! And your Spock! In the jail how he was trying to keep everyone from telling Jim's story, that realization of how important that information is to Kirk-a Vulcan scientist whose life is dedicated to uncovering and sharing information.
My ONE SINGLE WISH, though maybe purposeful choice by you- no one mentioned Amanda. Spock had to choose a life, on the edge of a crumbling cliff face, had to watch someone /fall/ and Jim chose for him. Like yes it's empathy and a hard choice, but his mom died as Vulcan crumbled away. For Uhura to fall and he have to watch the descent? Ooof. That was SO stressful!

I don’t care what anyone says about this chapter. It was frickin AMAZING AND I LOVED IT! I loved the war zone setting and Hendorff’s story of how he came to respect Jim. Very well written and Sulu wasn’t out of character at all. It was amazing. I am SO enjoying this fic!

Read this story for the first time years and years ago. (Oh my gods I'm so old-when did that happen?) And just found it again. It's just as heartwarming now as it was like 7 years ago when I first came across it. 3
