![]() ![]() That "Asari are our cousins" shit needs to fucking stop. God, I don't have an issue with your characters but that term reeks so badly of manipulation (and it's nonsensical, how the fuck are aliens our "cousins" because they kinda look like Blue human females?) that it makes me physically ill. |
![]() ![]() ![]() I have read this probably 5 times now, and the fact that Ahern's Black Remembrance is in Shepard's eyes equal to the 2 Stars of Terra always bothered me. I know the Alliance is fucked up, but this Asari fangirl thought process kind of pisses me off. I am also aware of why Shepard would think like this, but that doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Man, the cast is getting cut to ribbons in these stories. Also, that ending bit with all the religious messages lining up, loved that. I'm hard pressed to point at something I don't like, this kind of story is just right up my alley. |

![]() ![]() Typo, needs capitalisation. - batarian proverb |
![]() ![]() Typo, extra that. When that I can't do that anymore, And once again, on reading this, the only problem I really have is read write access to people's memories by Commissary (Reading I could accept, under a different society), and it being mandatory. The idea that it's sickening and everyone will be freaks is just mildly amusing. |

![]() ![]() Questionmark where a full stop should be. She exhaled. "I swear to uphold the Manswell Doctrine? To ensure humanity survives, no matter the cost in tears, blood, and sin." |
![]() ![]() Noticed a typo on reread. Joker's Pride is 2.8, but Shepard says 2.7 later in the conversation. |
![]() ![]() ![]() And thus ends another book. (Spoilers and me being overanalytical below). This book, I think as intended, is a bridge book for the next major arc. Addressing and/or wrapping up conflicts in the first half like Shepard's training, Tali's belonging, ShepT'soni's melding, Benezia's lasting echoes in the galaxy, nailing down what's really going on in the SA. And then continuing the main theatre of affairs into the next arc. The Collectors, furthering the Broker's goals. For a bridge book the stakes still feel quite like as if I was reading a main title. Mainly in regards to Sara and Liara's strong yet fragile bond, and the risks it entails if something goes wrong, which we know will go wrong just with the big hints on what would happen in this fic alone. The supporting cast were absolutely lit in this story. Adern is now one of the top characters in literature I'll remember just by having the balls to tear every character down a notch whether they're a father figure like Anderson or a seemingly unstoppable ball like Shepard. Tearing the latter down really helped put the power levels of characters in this universe in perspective. Comm is certainly one that's stuck seeing everyone's value to his ambitions rather than as people, I sort of pity him as it's a way of thinking that seems very hard to dislodge, especially since he lacks that self-awareness on how that will affect everyone. Funny, how Liara becomes desperate for revenge like Comm but still has a heart to care about her friends, maybe only just though since I fear it's more for Shepard's sake then she herself who actually cares. Dallas is sort of a foil Comm's absolute perspective of things, where people may seem like crooks but can be very human at heart. I find it hilarious that despite the SA being a shitfest that Windsor seems like a President I'd rather have then anyone else. I'd like to think he was initially desiring to be emotionally distant to the wrecking ball that is Shepard but her unyielding sense of justice and how she keeps ending up looking after people who look after her broke that barrier quite a bit. And it shows in the funeral. I do have critism though. I feel Tali really needs a proper talk with Rael'Zorah about family. Just to follow up on Adern's revelations about how a father truly feels. Maybe it'll crop up in the next book. Some idiot balling was present in the second half of this story. Characters making mistakes is all fine and dandy but some of them were just... hard to accept. I seriously cannot believe the Glorious Batarian would not think that a ground insertion would go for the GTS controls considering that seems like a way easier option than hunting down each and every GTS hardpoint. The Broker is getting really sloppy. He seriously keeps forgetting counter-intelligence exists at the most critical moments. Shields has identified to have gone rogue after accessing information she wasn't authorised to have. He even identified Shields as to being an asset to Cerberus. Shields is known for her relationship with Shepard. It seriously wouldn't be hard to put together that Cerberus would interfer in the fragile operation of taking over Omega. He could of even put together some of their assets being deployed based on known intel about Cerberus, and Shepard and Shield's associates. If he had known of this potential threat, he should of scrubbed this operation wholesale. However, weaknesses are inevitable in a massive work of literature, and they're outweighed by the large number of things I love about this work. The distortion of right, wrong and greater good amongst galactics. The intriguing insane yet identifiable insanity in the lore of this reimagining like the Quarian schism as a result of a political divide and an AI evolution. Lurking horrors within and without, like the darkness taking over the Emperor and imperial space. A new hidden Thol'ian making Salarian plant zombies. And characters growing, going above and beyond facing this bleak universe. Nobledark will always be my favourite genre and this series is one of the finest examples of such. |
![]() ![]() Disgusting aliens. How incomprehensible |
![]() ![]() Ah, this is almost optimistic, this universe. We have people working on projects like NOVENSILES to this day, and we don't have the valid reason of alien threats to justify it. God, ignorance is bliss. |
